    The Australian National Homebrewing Conference

Gee, I must of missed that... I thought the conference, like this forum, was a place for discussing beer... not personal vendettas. Especially from people hiding behind a forum alias'... Edit: BTW. The conference was fantastic, interesting discussions, good beers, great food (food...

Vic Xmas In July 2008 Tasting Thread

That was mine, I added freshly ground coffee to the fermenter at about 10gm/L and left it for a couple of weeks. To be honest I dont really like the beer that much anymore and I certainly agree that it has a weedy vegetable character to it. I reckon it came out too dry (mash temp was a touch...

Was it in a plastic bottle of a glass bottle? They had different coffee additions.

Vic Xmas In July 2008 Tasting Thread

Agree with hutch's words about superhero stout... That beer has been the pick of the swap for me so far by a long way (not to take credit from the other beers... but this stuff was sensational!) I'll post my tasting notes on a few of the beers soon(ish). and sorry to the people who don't like...

    July 2008 "beer Free" Challenge

Crazy talk. +1 person who read the title as 'free beer'. No drinking means no brewing, and I personally couldn't live without either. Good luck to anyone who gives it a go though.

I don't think thats the case Tony, most of those Belgian Grand Crus have candy sugar in them.

    Winter Stout Recipe

The recipe you suggest sounds pretty good, I'd use all the roast barley though, and only 200gm of the chocolate. I'd also knock back the volume to like 18 litres (or even less depending how 'warming' you want it). Oh, and I dont reckon you'll really taste 10gms of dry hopped goldings in the...

    Grand Cru

I thought the term 'grand cru' means "this is the grandest, finest beer that we can brew at our brewery" rather than an actual brewing style as such. I've tasted Grand Cru's (Belgian and otherwise) that cover styles from wheatbeers to Belgian dubbels. If you're looking to make something like...

    Brett Questions

Bretts all fun and good to experiment with until you find it in all your beers. I've got a barleywine which has gone from awesome to very very dry and pissy thanks to brett. Keep your lambics and brett experiments well away from your 'standard brews' and never use the fermenters for anything...

    Hop Pellets Into Bottles

I bought a box of tuborg (the cheapest beer you'll find) when I was in Denmark, I took the cap off each bottle and put one pellet of saaz, cascade or fuggle in all of them, then recapped them all. This is what became.... -They all tasted better -you needed to pour it into a glass, and even then...

Vic Xmas In July 2008 Case Swap

Well my half of the coffee stout contribution was tasted the other day, it's got so much coffee flavour in it. Maybe too much... so there's another one in the winter sipper category.

Chimay Blue - Cellar Or Scoff

If cellared properly, it will last over 10 years. Like the others said, buy another bottle so you have two... then drink one and cellar one. When you feel like its had its time, buy another one and do a comparison. Chimay Blue is an excellent beer.
