    Holiday In Usa!

Cheers, should keep me busy. Any ideas on Boston and Providence also?

    Holiday In Usa!

Maybe just because it is getting a little old hat for them, but I would still say it was happening. Lot of people were talking up the Mid West brew scene when I was there. It could just follow trends like that (think rock music - and how over the times there have been scenes based in certain...

    Holiday In Usa!

I went around the West Coast August-Sept last year. So many beers... Around San Fran, 21A and Toronado are must see. Russian River if you get out to Sonoma. LA is a hellhole. Just stay away from there. Portland, OR, is the place to be. Lots of great micros. Hood River is a great place as...

Paint Ball C02 Tanks Why Not?

I'd suggest that that adapter would be for a reg with US size thread (which is the same thread as a paintball cylinder - what this adapter does is depresses the valve on the cylinder which a reg doesn't do). A soda stream adapter works the same and is what I use. Can be found from the site...

    Growing Barley

In a good year we get about 2 tonnes to the acre, so about 0.5kg per square meter. I'd probably leave it to the cockies to grow the stuff, unless you have a big backyard. Then you have to malt the stuff, which requires a bit of skill, especially if you don't know what the grain quality is.

    All New Big Brew System

You could get something like this for a price around your budget. (The 1BBL system) http://www.pbcbreweryinstallations.com/breweries.html Maybe even track down a second hand one from the UK. (There are plenty of small scale breweries over there, many of them either get big enough to upgrade...

    Mountain Goat Ipa...rip

On the tasting notes at the 4th July US beers event at the Local Taphouse, St Kilda, the Goat Steam was described as been inspired by the US method of warm fermenting a lager yeast, but in reverse, going on the say it was an ale yeast done at a low temp. I'm tipping a Kolsch yeast from the...

    Foreign Galaxy Stout

I've used galaxy as the bittering hop in a pils, 30g for 60 mins in a 25L batch (along with 30g of saaz at 15 and flameout) It is a decent bittering hop - slightly course which I like. However the galaxy taste carried right through, so much so you can hardly notice the saaz. Came through as...

    Male Hops Wanted

I've got a few seeds, but haven't got them up and going yet. If they do get going (I'll be planting them a bit later on in the year), I'll make sure to share some the male plants around (in return for a few of the experimental crosses down the track ;))

    The Local Taphouse Melbourne

I've just moved to Melbourne and live right around the corner from the Taphouse. What a stroke of luck. Amazing beer line up, good food, good times. And Hargraves Hill ESB...my goodness. That is a cracker!

    Craft Beers In London

Thornbridge Jaipur is one of the best beers in the UK. Hands down. Crouch Vale is another brewery that is top notch. (Both would kick the pants out of Landlord). Also try out Harveys. St Peters has the best looking bottles I've ever seen beer packaged in as well, if you're into that. One...

    Traditional Cask Conditioned English Bitter

Adding the oxygen seems to soften the taste of the beer. When you try a beer from the stillage and from a beer engine side by side it can be quite a pronounced difference. A lot depends on how the beer is poured and how conditioned the beer is also. It is similar to comparing a freshly opened...

    Traditional Cask Conditioned English Bitter

I'd imagine to fake the real ale effect you could simply allow the beer to carbonate in the keg, then depressurise (say leave open the pressure relief valve) at cellar temp (around 10C). Then you could serve it up through your keg system with the reg set at a low pressure. You wont quite get...

    Traditional Cask Conditioned English Bitter

Generally the casks were carbonated to around 2 vols. Anything higher and we had trouble with impatient landlords (and sometimes cellars where beer had squirted everywhere - the Timothy Taylor Landlord has a reputation for been quite lively). Our stout we kept a little lower, golden ales a...

    Traditional Cask Conditioned English Bitter

Got back a couple of months ago. Picked the moment to leave the UK perfectly - freezing cold and jobs vanishing all over the place.

    Traditional Cask Conditioned English Bitter

I spent 12 months as a head brewer of a micro in the UK, so can offer so advice. All our cask ales were carbonated in the cask (probably to about what a cube can handle, although it would be touch and go) for about two weeks before going out to trade. What makes it low carbonation when...

    Guinness Africa + Ad

The ad was on the TV all the time I spent in Africa. The Guinness over there certainly tastes unique. Brewed quite strong, about 6.5% from memory, but really low attenuation, so very sweet.
