Dry Malt boiled over and causing strange reaction

yeah thats a reasonable idea, cheers. ive googled chlorophenols. im in Perth and as i understand it, there is chlorine in the water not chloride. I flash the chlorine out by letting it sit for a day or two. maybe need to filter the water instead.

Dry Malt boiled over and causing strange reaction

Yeah, it has happened when I did a twocan but for a single tin and the usual yeast, bit unusual. As long as it doesnt appear to be related to an infection, keep calm and carry on.

Dry Malt boiled over and causing strange reaction

Thanks for the reply. No it was with water. I have never taken the lid off the fermenter so not used to whatever "other" smells are going on in there. The other thing is, I wonder why there was such a reaction in the foam/krausen and what that means?

Dry Malt boiled over and causing strange reaction

Hello all, I have been doing this for some years now but never have seen this. I did a Coopers Hefe wheat with Coopers brew enhancer 3 and i took my eye away from the pot heating up the sugars, and the pot boiled over, leaving a thick viscos type liquid. I thought it would be ok to continue to...

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

Thanks for the above replies. I just wanted to bring this to a conclusion by saying that if any newbie is in the same boat as me and not quite at the keg stage, i recommend transferring to a soda stream bottle. You can get them in 1l or 600m and they are durable, keep carbonation and decent...

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

ok cool cheers. So there is no way around it other than pouring into a jug. I think the other thing is the bigger the bottle the more the sediment.

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

Thanks for the clarification. I get it, i guess i could pour it into a sealed jug in the event that i have had enough.

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

Im sort of stuck with the 1.25l bottles for the time being, so in that case ill give secondary a go. Cheers

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

Yep exactly, im trying to keep the yeast cake out of the beer and i dont re use it being quite primitive. So my idea is to drain out the yeast cake after fermentation and maybe then add in the biofin for good measure and let sit for a few days for better measure. Good/bad idea?

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

thank you for the replies. So, draining the sludge at the bottom of the primary fermenter after fermentation is a no go? That being the case I will try and get the temps down as much as I can and try Biofine.

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

Hi there all, Would appreciate some advice in this, I am a basic Coopers Kit brewer with a good year under my belt and I want to produce a clear beer. I bottle 1.25 litre bottles and the first glass is clear but after the first pour, you can see the sediment at the bottom of the bottle stir...

    Various temp reading fermenter

Probably a good investment, no more messing around and summer nearly here and all. Time to clean out the shed and make room for the important stuff.

    Various temp reading fermenter

thanks for the replies here, No, nothing PVC but I no longer get the garden hose taste and I put that down to getting the temps down. It was odd because I ended up with most batches tasting if the same plasticy taste so I upped my game and put more effort into cleaning and sanitizing (I know...

    Various temp reading fermenter

Ha, yeah well it tasted like that to me but my palate is not anything to go by. But i dont do it that way (i fill up with tap water from constantly used tap and let sit for a day or 2 to flash off any chlorine. Not sure if this is common but I do notice the difference when I do a smell test.

    Various temp reading fermenter

Hi all, After trial and error, sick of drinking beer that tasted like I was drinking through a garden hose, I finally have great beer through keeping my ales at around 22 degrees. Coming into summer in Perth again i have been putting my fermenter into a bucket of iced water that sits around 10...
