    American IPA

Kit has Columbus, Centennial and Citra in it. Does the label on the cube have a dry hop recommendation? That would be a good place to start. If not listed to keep simple maybe try a 50g addition of Citra for an fruity aroma hit if you have not dry hopped before. I would usually add more dry...

    Stuck Fermentation? - thoughts

Thanks for the continued feedback. Brew was put down on the 31st and I think was done between the 3rd and 5th. The M42 yeast is a beast. The 2 x packets were used thinking that it was going to end up being a 1.090 RIS, rather than a 1.066 stout :-). I usually do not really check the gravity for...

    Stuck Fermentation? - thoughts

I will put this down to not really knowing what I am doing. Learning as I go..... I just double checked the spreadsheet where I recorded. It was actually 16.1 Brix and now reads 7.2 brix (although sometimes it looks like 7.5 Brix) so some natural variation... Using the calculators it looks like...

    Stuck Fermentation? - thoughts

Ooops my bad. I did type plato and was talking Brix as that is what the measurement was.... Multitasking at work while worrying about my beer is a bad idea..... The FWK instructions are very generic - and say for Kegging - dilute to 20L and for bottling dilute to 23L. I am bottling and went 21L...

    Stuck Fermentation? - thoughts

Hi All, Fairly new to fermenting beer (doing batch #4). Brewing a Russian Imperial Stout FWK. Was supposed to be OG around 1.090. Measured 16.1 Brix (1.060) using a refractometer (after I added 6L water to the 15L FWK). Yeast is 2 x packets of Mangrove Jacks M42 Strong Ale that was rehydrated...

First Brew - APA Fresh Work Kit using Safale US-05 yeast

Hi all, First brew is in my new shiny Mangrove Jacks Craft Stainless Steel kit put down Sunday night. Decided to brew a FWK as the first brew and then will come back to the included kit brew next. Have a temp control on the brew fridge (this will need to be changed in the future as a...

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

New Temp controller is now in place. LCD also started to play up with 1 showing as a 7, so it has now been swapped. Something a little wrong with the electronics. Lucky me got a dud that cost me some sleep. Good news is I think it did not cost me my brew.

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

Thanks guys. After having fridge on all night it finally got down to just under18 degrees at 5am. Unit is definitely faulty as the Set button does not work anymore to check anything. I have tapes it under styrofoam to the fermenter now. Will be a pray scenario while at work today.... At least...

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

Probe was originally free in mid fridge. I moved to up against the fermenter. That triggered the reading to be a bit higher. Light is flashing in the controller, however the relay is not putting power back on. Worked fine until after I have completed brew and put in fridge. When is was high...

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

Thanks guys. Will wait until the brew fully cools down (still shows 23 on the brew therm).and will then try fridge on on warmest setting. Seems like having too cold will be better than too hot. Hopefully will just slow the yeast and then get set again tomorrow after I hopefully get back to the...

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

Hi Hermies, It is the Mangrove Jacks Dual Temp controller. To test it out put the fridge on earlier to today and had kept it with the range. As soon as she hit 18.5c would kick in. Have just removed (as it failed to fire again) and temp was at 23C. Instruction manual is pretty lean on the...

First Brew - New temp controller failed - what to do

Hi all, Just got my first brew on Fresh Wort APA using SAF US-05 yeast. All was good until just now, and the cooling relay on the new temp controller did not trigger. Reset power cycled etc, all no help. Just ran the fridge manually to get temp back down. Did another test with where the temp...

    Howdy from Brisbane

Thanks Hambone. I work just down the road from them. Have the benefit of also living pretty close to Cannon Hill Brewing and CraftBrewer. So many options.
