    Cleaning Silicon Tubing.

Hi Guys. I'm trying to clean all the brew gear before pissing off for a month so it'll be ready to go on my return. How do I remove the beer scum from the silicon lines to/from the pump. My normal practice of boiling water and sodium percarbonate and running the pump don't seem to shift it from...

    Out of Town

Cheers. Yep all the kegs are gassed and the fridge will be staying on. I'll find out if the kegs themselves leak on my return I guess.

    Out of Town

Hi guys. I'm heading off to India in about 3 weeks and am trying to ferment all my cubes before we leave. One cube left so job almost done. I was also planning to turn off the gas. Disconnect all gas connects at the kegs and then bugger off. If all kegs are gassed I'm hoping this will be ok. I'm...

    White Rabbit

The next brew through the filter into a serving keg was similarly tainted. I pulled everything apart and found some hop rubbish caught up in the spring on the out valve of the donor keg I use to to push beer through the filter. Still got a cube of that brew left so I'll try again soon.

    White Rabbit

I've brewed up a white rabbit dark ale clone and it obviously has too much carafa in it. Took over a week for it to mellow out. Twas very tart. Here's the grain bill for a 40L batch 7.40 kg Gladfield American Ale Malt (5.0 EBC) Grain 5 72.5 % 1.00 kg Munich I (Weyermann) (7.0 EBC) Grain 6 9.8...

    4 Pines Indian Pale Ale

I've been brewing this as 4Pines but it's not as close as I'd like to be honest. Tastes ok but it needs to mellow in the keg for a week before you tap it. Ignore any volumes. I design 40L batches then reduce them to 32L to cube them. http://starshed.net/HomeBrew/4Pines-PA.pdf Sorry just...

Did your brew volume change when you moved to kegs? Less volume with same weights would equal more bitter.

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

When we bottled 30 years ago, we'd shake em up and pour em into a jug. Ah the good old days .......

Remove sediment in primary instead of racking

The sediment in your bottles is from the secondary fermentation which happens in the bottles to gas it. You add some sort of sugar to the bottles, then add the fermented wort. The dormant yeast in the fermented wort sees the sugar and starts up again gassing the beer. The by product is the yeast...

How to dispose of spent grains?

Plastic bag and into the wheely bin. Bin pickup is Wednesday so Monday/Tuesday is brew day else it really stinks and leaks. My nephews have chooks and they don't want it. Rancid rubbish is hard to palm off.

My Keg Setup - need a review

How do you set a pressure when there's a leak. That makes no sense. End cut pliers and crimp connectors, job done.

My Keg Setup - need a review

Cos you only need to cool the beer not the gas. Also more room for beer. A splitter is fine with crimp fittings not push fit. You can't tell if they are leaking. I have a 4 way going to a 3 way so 4 kegs. I started with pluto guns but now use one external tap. The door is only opened to change...

My Keg Setup - need a review

My 2Cents. Gas bottle outside the fridge. The sides of modern fridges normally don't have lines in them the backs do. Small test hole, 2mm, then make it bigger to fit grommets and a line then silicon. One way valve outside. Crimped Tee pieces are fine inside. Push fittings can leak and you'll...

Lazy Yak - has anyone managed a good imitation?

To learn how to mix hops and grain it's easier to copy a known brew. You gain the knowledge of how they interact and what to change to get to the result you want. As far as I can see if you don't do something like that you'll just be making someone eases recipes for ever.

Lazy Yak - has anyone managed a good imitation?

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. But only arseholes push their opinions on other people.

    Keg Issues

Got it. The shaft of a 6.5mm twist drill fits into the dip tube on the fast keg but won't fit in the dip tube of the slower keg. At least I now know what's going on.

Dodgy email supposedly from CraftBrewer - beware

I believe there are a lot more hacked sites involved than have been mentioned here. I do small business computer support and some of my clients have also received this email with their password. None of them would ever have been on any of the sites mentioned here. I see no evidence of...
