I might trial a small batch first, a single stage mash as usual to see how this works.
But I do want a fairly high oat content - for a winter stout.
Thanks!
Hey Brewers,
Wondering if I could use Quick / unmalted Oats as part of the base.
75% ale malt and the rest - quick oats, will I get reasonable sugars from this?
A compact DIY setup - works so well, will need new bearings soon! The 13L esky fits exactly 5kg - good enough for a 30L batch.
WEAL - recognise this?
I had a similar approach when started brewing - used a dex / water and a shot dispenser, worked out the dex per 30ml "shot" per longneck.
I might just go with the carb drops for now - do a 28L batch, 19L kegged and the rest - bottled, see if there's any issues :)
I've been kegging for a while now, however considering doing a odd batch just to bottle (PET bottles).
Don't want to overcomplicate this process, so I'll be brewing non-pressure and bottling ("transferring") with a wand - looking at a sst version.
My other option is to attach a line to the...
Thanks Mark,
Forgot to mention - my Pluto is the one commonly available from KK / KL and resellers - "Premium Stainless Steel Pluto Gun". It's actually of really good quality and finish - it'd be disappointing if no spare parts are available.
I'll pull it apart again and see if the end seal /...
After serving me many batches of brew, my Pluto gun has developed "incontinence" - pulled it apart for a clean, but no joy.
Is the nozzle seal (or the stem assembly) available as a spare part or can be replaced / repaired somehow?
Thanks :)
Thanks Bird,
That was my prime concern - those "fruity" flavours, I prefer my beer bitter :)
I'll do this batch with S-04, and the S-129 can be a small batch experiment based on a can of goo, I don't want 28 odd litres of undrinkable AG brew.
Hey Brewers,
I typically brew AG / BIAB SMASH using W34-70 in winter and US-05 or S-04 summer time, usually happy with the malt-forward session brews this combination produces.
However, I'm tempted to use the same malt (base Ale) & hops (Simcoe) and ferment with S-129. Am I to expect a taste...
I'll let it ferment out as long as possible so the yeast can clean up any nasties.
Surprised to see it start so rapidly, new yeast usually takes a day to show visible ferment.
Live and learn :)
Short story: pitched S-04 @ ~30C, 28L batch @ 1.040 in the evening and cooled overnight down to 20. Pressure set to 20PSI later in the day.
Didn't expect the yeast to fire up so quickly so now I'm a bit nervous about esters / fusel alcohols...
Some conflicting info re: esters & warm wort early...
Hey Brewers, I’m looking to reduce my inventory:
Fermentasaurus V1+ spare collect bottle
Adjustable spunding valve
Corny (new gaskets / posts, pick up tube shortened by 20mm)
Coopers Fermenter inc Krausen Collar + keg transfer tube
All in good condition, $100 for the lot.
Inspect / collect –...
Putting the political shit storm aside, Keg King - please update your website with stock info & ETA details. Some products are "out of stock" on your website but the fridges had what I needed when I came past today... Not the first time either.
My last batch NC cubed ended up being 1.060 @ approx 22L.
Diluted with 8L of water to 30L @ 1.044 to ferment away.
From another source: (Current Gravity x Current Volume) / Desired Gravity = Final Volume
So, in my case: 60 x 22 / 44 = 30L
The picnic tap would work, but for a some extra cash I'd get the Stainless Pluto gun - I've been using one for about a year now - no complaints. Well made, looks and feels good, works well and easy to clean.
Marina Breeze - the Hardbrew Man
I've done a 16 litre Dark Ale with a few "proper" Espresso shots... kinda aiming at a Stout sort of thing...
Yes, I drank it, but ummm I think the IBU went through the roof, my chest became an Afghan rug and I didn't sleep much that week.
