Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

It's going to take just a bit longer to cycle up this time of year due to the overnight temps, the aquarium water wouldn't hurt, but some of the "gunk" out of the filter from your aquarium straight into the grow beds would be better. That's where the bacteria are living in your indoor system. H.

Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

yep.. lots of good systems around the country using those same pieces of equipment..some of the most productive too. As mentioned earlier, as long as you know what was in the IBC before hand and it wasn't anything nasty for people or fish then your OK. Also the IBCs arent UV fixed so they...

Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

Hi Devo, the concern is that the leaching will happen due to the time the water + growing media is in contact with the plastic rather than leaching from heating as would be the case in a hot liquids when brewing.

Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

Hi Coz, good advice on food grade. I do use the black plastic "crates" from Bunnings as well as the 500 litre containers, this is my choice and do not wish to influence others. The 500 litre containers are manufactured in Italy and an effort was made on contacting the manufacturer and...

Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

Haven't pulled it out yet, it's still got plenty of green leaves on it so I'm letting it gather as much energy for next year before pulling it out and storing it in the fridge. As for invasion of pipes, I've had some from the tomatoe plants and celery in the past. If you have your outer pipe on...

Would You Like Some Fish With Your Hops.

Hi Guys, Just a bit of an update on trying hops in Aquaponics. I put in a small rhizome last August and have harvested 25grams (dry) of wurttenbuger (sp) hops from this plant. It could have been more but I have really neglected my garden this season (got a reno going on) from the system came...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Thanks Pete, I was planning on doing this as well. I'm hopeing it will be enough. I started assembly this afternoon, I started with the quilt. I'm trying to avoid using any metal in the construction, but may wind up having to use some screws as I feel I'm losing time just trying to glue...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Hi Pete, What are the regulations in Canberra regarding the Warre Hive, I soke to the local PIRSA guy here in Adelaide regarding permits etc.. first worry was when he had never heard of them. The biggest worry is that the regs here state that hives must have removable frames, apparently this is...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Cheers Pete, I have a fence to rebuild at my parents place this weekend, but should be close to finishing at least one hive with two boxes. I'll drop around to the central market and get some lemon grass ooil and some wax for the top bars. Fortunately I already have plenty of linseed oil. I'll...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Thanks Pete, I've been visiting that site and have printed the book off. I find reading a book on the screen a pain. Also downloaded the plans and as you are aware have started building. I haven't assembled anything as I wasn't sure if I needed to put windows in, what you describe seems...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Hi Pete, are you putting windows in your Warre? just curious as to how you will know when to add the next box? As an absolute novice I'm trying to work out a lot off things before I get bees. Don't want to be responsible for deaths if I can avoid it. There doesn't seem to be too many of these...

Hi Pete, As one who's hobbies include making furniture from wood.. the best straight cut guide for a circular saw comprises of a straight edge piece of wood and some clamps. the method is : with saw unplugged, measure from the edge of the cutting blade to the edge of the bottom plate on your...

Building The Bee Hives In Pictures

Hi Pete, I have a couple of questions, firstly is there a reason for the bottom of the main hive to be open, that is hinged, why not just have it sealed? secondly, apart from the hive opening being a bit sheltered, is there a reason the sides are a particular angle? I hope to build a...

    Climate Change Affecting Hops Quality?

If haven't explained my self clearly, and you think me daft...so be it. If it seems I was baiting anybody, then I apologise, this was not the intent. The intent was to explain that knowledge in a specified area of expertise does not make you smarter than anybody else, who may have knowledge...

    Climate Change Affecting Hops Quality?

I didn't say they weren't smarter, I said I didn't consider them smarter...they just know different things. they may have a lot of knowledge in one area.... lets say - computer modeling, can they rebuild a motor cycle engine that their mate insists on red lining  or for that matter a...

    Climate Change Affecting Hops Quality?

Whish is questioning while remaining sceptical of the outcome.... I haven't rejected the theory, I'm sceptical of it and Until I am convicedby the "observational evidance" I will question their findings. So far what I have read points to the warming period as having finished, even though...

    Climate Change Affecting Hops Quality?

Well I personally don't consider anybody smarter than me, they just know different stuff. However on the whole Climate Change and specially CO2 emissions subject .. I'll keep my wood fired Pizzas and bubbly beer thanks just the same. I got very Sceptical when they said that an element which is...
