    OK.........so i dont normally cube - but i hadnt realised the yeast i was going to pitch was dead - it was stored in a fridge that i turned off when i want away for a summer holiday - the shed regularlly gets to 45d +, inside the fridge with no power - not much cooler. Yob.....its pretty hot...

    Eeek! Loosing Power For 6 Hours - How Low Can I Drop The Temp?

    We had a power outage for 4 hours a few weeks back - brew in the shed only rose 2 degrees - within ferment range - the shed temp was about 40 degrees c ! Me thinks you should be fine.

I will take it that the reading at about 1- 2 mins out of the fermenter at approx 18 degrees is the correct one and in which case thats 2 days...

    Thanks Mondestrunken and Warra - i always give it a good spin to dislodge the bubbles. What is the ideal temp to take a reading? - as everyones room temp is different - the temp in my shed today is about 43 degrees.

    Just taken a reading as i am about to crash chill the brew for a week or so. The reading is 1010 - about 1 - 2 mins out of the fermenter. I was mucking around in the garden and left the hydrometre upright in the vice and came back about 20 - 30 mins later and its reading 1006 or there abouts...

    Im with seamad - get that motorhome into the rural areas and get to the markets, they are incredible. The Brittany region is nice - great local culture - food - famous for its crepes.
