Calculating maximum amount of grain in a Braumeister clone

Cheers! I will check out that spreadsheet and get calculating. Grain crush isn't something I have too much control over - I purchase mine freshly milled from my LHBS

Calculating maximum amount of grain in a Braumeister clone

After nearly a year of collecting a building my (ghetto) Braumeister clone I finally brewed my first batch on it yesterday. Whilst I was pleased with the end result my effeciency (50.2%) was no where near what I had expected. I have a feeling that I mashed too thick - 6.85kg of grain in a 20L...

    Correct Thread Sizing

Cheers, plumbing vs. hydraulic may just be the problem. A 3/4" skin fitting will look to do the trick - LINK Cheers,

    Correct Thread Sizing

Putting this one out there for in hope that someone knows how thread sizes work (1/2", 3/4" etc.). More specifically someone who's bought a 1/2" Stainless full bore 2 piece (Grain and Grape) fitting and connected a Skin Fitting to it. I'd recently purchased a 1/2" Ball Valve and a 1/2" skin...

    Hop plant from Bunnings

Going to wait for mine to drop its leaves and the stick it in the ground under a pile of straw and chicken wire (so the bloody dog doesn't pull it out). Although it's pretty comfy under the pergola. Maybe I should wait till spring before putting it in the ground and just pot it on for winter.

    Prostrate Hops?

I wouldn't have thought day length would be that long in Melbourne to cause growth issues. If what you're saying is true maybe shielding it from the afternoon sun might work on two levels. Protecting it from sunburn/drying out and encouraging growth. I'm pretty keen in not having to pull it out

Feeding Yeast During Fermentation in Secondary?

Typically for a Belgian I have always racked to a secondary and then injected with 10% of the total grain bill with sugar syrup (made by boiling white sugar with equal parts water - boil more if you want a darker beer, less for lighter) rather than harder to ferment sugars to kick off a...

    Hop plant from Bunnings

Would love to know who got the other 5 pots at Taylor's Lakes (VIC) Bunnings. I was there last night on the hunt hoping I could knab another plant given the missus has granted her blessing to grow them given she likes the look of them ornamentally. Maybe I should have a squiz to see what the...

    Prostrate Hops?

... no not prostate hops  I have had my Tettnanger for 4 years now, the previous 3 years they have been in a large pot however I've never once had any cones and the vertical growth of the plant has deminished year on year until I now get what you see in the picture below (taken...

Hops For A Few Styles Of Beer, N Stuff

2 weeks to carb assuming it was on the higher end of the wine cooler's temperature capacity *should* be enough - but it wasn't suggested as a maximum, obviously there's different factors at play. I'm sure the OP would have the good sense to check a bottle to make sure they had carbed up...

Hops For A Few Styles Of Beer, N Stuff

3-5 minutes if you're trying to get aroma, same as you would steep a teabag. You can really only steep hops for aroma as they really need to be boiled to get bitterness and flavour (60-30 for bitterness, 30-10 for flavour,10-0 for aroma)

Hops For A Few Styles Of Beer, N Stuff

Lagers aren't exactly the recommended starting point for homebrewing but that aside if you're wanting to get a "clean" lager taste without the equipment and methodology I'd recommend using Safale US-05 and brewing it at 15c. It's a naturally very clean yeast and is often used to make...

Best Size Pot For All Grain Biab

I personally use a 10Gal (38L) Aluminium pot with a tap/screen and a neoprene jacket. I only brew to fill a 10L keg, mainly because I just can't get through 20L in a reasonable amount of time without impacting my health :) I know there's a real appeal to using SS pots but for the price ($200+)...

    Over Boiled Wort

If the wort is concentrated should just be a simple matter of adding water to dilute. I doubt you're going to destroy your yeast by adding them in however you might find they may not convert all the sugar and you'll end up with a dessert beer :) If you don't dilute the Abbey Ale would do a...

    Space Beer

ha! heard this on the radio this morning (well half heard) and thought they were actually brewing in space. I was thinking to myself how the hell are they going to get the yeast to settle out :)

Newb: Can Someone Explain To Me The Gladwrap Lid Concept

I find the pro of having glad wrap instead of the lid is that you can see what's happening in the fermenter. Unless of course you have a transparent lid! The other is that it's one less thing to clean - as people have stated.

    Infection Photo Thread

glad to get some confirmation on the US05 not forming a hard pack. I dropped in some gelatine in this morning so hopefully it clears up some more edit: mind you though by cloudy I mean it kind of looks like muddy water!

    Infection Photo Thread

Actually have an interesting one. I racked perfectly clear beer into my keg, however some of the trub in the bottom made its way in as well. At the time I thought oh well it'll settle out, however 2 weeks later it's still pouring like a hefeweizen. It's not chill haze as I poured a glass and...

Under Carbed... Can It Be Fixed?

You're opening yourself up to infection by spoon feeding dextrose directly into bottles. I'd be measuring 10ml x Number of Bottles of water and then boiling your dextrose with that for a short period and then using a 10ml syringe to "inject" your bottles. It's a little more process driven but...
