How old is this bottle of Guinness?

I don't know how old that bottle is but I have drunk Guinness from the 1930's... Long story of how it was acquired (2 bottles) but we tried to get date of production confirmation from Diageo and they were not forthcoming but advised not to drink it and instead asked if I would send it to Ireland...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

No I am not saying you/we are being ripped off at all. I am not explaining it too well though. .... and we must remember that all businesses make different price point decisions based on inputs outputs and marketability. The basic point is that in a lot of packaged beer the biggest inputs are...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

That really only applies as a difference between mid and full strength in draught form (container over 48litres) in small pack form the excise rate is the same. A big part of the cost in putting beer in bottles comes from the packaging itself. The difference in ingredients and excise (same rate...

What ,ABV related, regulations are the commercial brews complying with

You are allowed 0.2% leeway 0.3% for bottle conditioned product. As per a recent update and clarification issued by the ATO you pay excise based on the stated ABV unless the actual ABV exceeds the stated ABV then you pay based on the actual ABV. A 4.5% beer can be anywhere between 4.3% and 4.7 %...

    Belgian Beer Cafe Brisbane

Without knowing the full details I would dare say that it is due to similar reasons for many contract fights over the last year or so... Due to SAB Miller buying Fosters many other beer companies pulled their licencing and distrobution agreements away from Fosters, Of which AB Inbev was one ...

Eagle Heights Brewery - Still Open, Still Brewing!

Technically we are in the "scenic rim" not the Gold coast ;-) .... love to send beer to the Gold Coast if a venue wants it but right now we have our hands full with getting beer to Brisbane. We will get some there in the future though.... I promise.

Garden Hose water - is it so bad?

Former plumber and son of a plumber, now a brewer ....always obsessed with water quality Galvanised pipes were never soldered.... ever. By the 1980s houses were nearly always plumbed with a combination of copper, brass and poly piping. For the 100 or so years prior threaded galvanised piping and...

    Copper Hot Water Systems

Yes there will be a coil of copper in there but quite likely the reason why he replaced it was because the coil in those style systems (heat exchange) develop pinholes that cause the system to constantly overflow. This will mean tracking that hole down and brazing/soldering it up before it is...

    Ikea l Ljus & l Mrk Lagers

Actually it was a well intentioned law aimed not at stopping people from getting grog but stopping the supermarkets from dominating the take-away industry. Thus a law was created that in order to have a bottle shop in QLD you must have a General (hotel) License. No stand-alone or supermarket...

    Yeast Not Behaving In Conical

Great analogy and great advice Mark. That is just how it can behave sometimes in our big conicals too... it is very easy to punch a hole in the yeast.

    $90 For A Crownie.

We barrel age beer at work several times a year and depending on a few factors such as the age of the barrel and the type of oak it is amazing the flavour that comes out of the barrel in the first few months. Spirits, beer and wine are all different beasts and react differently to time in oak.

    $90 For A Crownie.

As I have said with each release -taste it before you knock it. I have tasted each release and can say with some conviction that aside from the Brett. issue last year it is a very, very good beer. The packaging and pricing is over the top but I described the initial release as a $20 beer in a...
