    Pump Speed Control

Hi Yorg, i haven't tried this on a march pump, but I know that it is normal for a centrifugal impeller pump to draw more current with an unrestricted outlet than a fully closed one. If this it true of the march pump, then your bypass would actually have the effect opposite to that which you were...

Extreme Amount Of Water Loss In Boil

Losing 8.5L of your wort from a 21L batch in an hour seems very strange indeed. Thats a whopping 40% evaporation rate whilst only raising it to boiling temperature.!! What does it lose during an hour long boil?? I agree with fingerlickin, and think something else is to blame. Double check your...

Vic Xmas In July Case Swap 2007

I'd be more inclined to just go with long necks. Otherwise I think many people including myself will have to go out and buy PET bottles especially for the swap. People can always go buy a slab of coopers long necks and drink them to make up the required bottles they need. Thats what i did last...

Vic Xmas In July Case Swap 2007

Hi guys, You can count me in for this also. I don't get much of a chance to brew these days, but I'll definitely make time for this. I'll probably do a lager of some sort, maybe a german pilsner. And I'm ok with any number of participants, the more the merrier. vl.

Vinegar Smell...1 Week In The Fermenter

You got that right tangent! Sodium met failed to sterilise properly for me several times in the past, and the result was usually an over carbonated vinegar smelling/ tasting gusher of a beer. I'd switch to iodophor Yeasty. Never let me down once. vl.

Ag Porter Recipe. How Does This Look?

g'day crozdog, I did a porter a while ago that used a grain bill almost identical to yours and it turned out great. Must admit I didnt use cascade, but rather northern brewer for bittering and some fuggles for flavour. Cascade will impart a very distinctive aroma that will make the beer very...

    Ac Motor Speed Controller

I assume you have a single phase induction motor MAH, so you could use a VSD to do the job, but its' too damn expensive. I'd go with wortgames suggestion and reduce the rpm by a gearbox of some kind, or even a pulley system etc. cheers vl.

    Ac Motor Speed Controller

Hi MAH, This sort of stuff is right up my alley. Slowing down an AC motor without a significant loss of torque requires a Variable Frequency Drive. An AC motors speed is mainly governed by the 50 hertz ac power it is supplied, but in the case of a VFD, the AC is converted to DC then...

Wanted One Spare Lid For A Corny Keg

give grain and grape a call in melbourne. I remember them telling me that some of the kegs they buy in are only good for parts. Maybe they can sell you a lid. vl.

    Cube Lid Spanner

I like your way of thinking borret. I made one for my fermenter lid. The airlock always bubbles now. I know its not that important, but I still like to see the bubbles. :P cheers vl.

    Automation, Electronics & Enclosures

g'day kook, theres a place in melbourne that can post and they're usually really cheap. You can get a 250vac 10A 3 pos switch there for $43. link their part no. is 26970. no affiliation etc. cheers vl.

    Measuring Temperature.

jupiter, I have a k-type t/c controller on my fermenter and I originally was going to immerse the probe into the brew with a stainless thermowell but finally decided against it for a few reasons. Firstly I didnt want to have to sterilise another piece of equipment on brew day and fitting a...

    Dryer Motor

4 coils means its a 4 pole motor, so your looking at around 1500 rpm. In reality its more likely 1450rpm or something like that. Maybe you shoud chuck a photo so I can be 100% sure. I beleive what you have is a capacitor start single phase AC motor with 4 poles, so that should mean 1500rpm...

    Dryer Motor

kook, assuming its an AC motor its usually either a 2 or 4 pole motor. A 2 pole motor runs at around 3000rpm and a 4 pole at around 1500 rpm. There are other motors with more poles than this that will run slower but the most common motor you'll find in a dryer/ washing machine etc will be a 4...

    Silicone O-ring In My Kettle?
