It's... the 2014 Extra Special Brewers Homebrew Competition

Woohoo, 1st and 3rd in the Aussie Ales - not super high scores, would have got jack if all the ales were grouped together, but I'll take in nonetheless... One day, when I'm not carting kids all over the countryside (and when its less than a 3 1/2 hour drive each way) I will get to one of these...

Castle Hill Home brew Competition 2013

Mine have been sitting there since Tuesday 13th... I'm assuming there will be a few more there than just mine and Mosto's - I'm hoping that someone will collect them all today??? Cheers, Greg

    Burners In Adelaide

Giganis are good but also try Maxibilt at Norwood - lots of good gear there, well worth a look, and if you're like me you will walk out with more than just a burner... http://maxbilt.com.au/ Cheers, Greg

    Nswabc 2011 Results

Hey Murcluf, thanks mate, hope all you blokes from the Barossa are good. Yea, still brewing, (lucky that beer was in the APA cat and not the PA, otherwise would have got jack) had a good year off doing 'proper' brews, with moving to the east coast etc (Batemans Bay, nice...) but now right back...

How Much For A New Hydrometer?

The best value hydrometers that i've found are from Aquarium shops, about 10 bucks - they dont have all the wine making scale on them, so easier to read, but they do only go up to 1060, but you can safely estimate up to about 1070...they even have a built in thermometer, so perfect for brewing.

    Melted Brew Belt

Ditch the ruined belt, cut your losses, then get a new one. Heater belts are meant to go around the brew its really that simple, they are not designed to hang in mid air. The full fermenter effectively keeps the heater belt cool, due to the thermal mass that it provides if you hang it in mid...

Ok Convince Me I Need A Refractometer

Refractometers are the perfect tool for getting the correct wort SG for a yeast starter/reculture - that in itself is reason enough to get one.

Wort Clarity Out Of Mash Tun

I'd have to agree - no need for clear run off, never really seen the point - I even stir the mash while I fly sparge! - the wort runs off through a SS false bottom, then through a fine plastic kitchen strainer into the boil pot - it is far from being crystal clear - never had a problem after...

Airstone Usage - What To Do?

BOG, there's some good info in the latest US brew mag "Brew Your Own" July/August 2009 edition (Vol. 15 No. 4) - there's articles on both "Wort Oxygenation" and "Attenuation". I picked it up the other day from the local newsagent along with the usual Aussie Beer and Brewer mag, its definately...

Adelaide Water At The West End

Its now $2, but thats for about 20L, so same price as it was before. Beautiful tasting water on its own (has a certain smoothness to it), but i have not yet used it in a brew. (at least not at 100%) No idea on the profile though... Cheers, GReg

    Australian Amateur Brewing Championship

Hi Craig, what would be the cost of the Friday and Saturday day/night functions and tours etc. for those interstaters who dont need accomodation? (I've got family there, so I would stay with them) Thanks and Cheers, Greg

The Schwartz Brewery All Grain Home Brewing Competition

Congrats Doc, a well deserved win with a score like that! Have fun with the grand prize, I'm very jealous... And congrats to Peter, hope you dont mind sharing second place (equal second is definately better than 3rd place in my book) Big thanks to the organisers, looked like a great day, would...

    2008 Castle Hill Competition

Well, those results were worth waiting for! Thanks to all the organisers and judges - nice work, really good detailed feedback - I also like the official BJCP score sheet as it gives you a good idea of the judges experience as well. Will definitely give it another crack next year. To answer...

    2008 Castle Hill Competition

Great, thanks for that Tseay, good news - it's just that some comps put a limit on number of entries per class and style, normally 2 and 1 respectively, so if you've got a Pale Ale category and it includes IPA, APA and OZPA you really have to choose what to send, or if there's an IPA Class/Cat...

Great, thanks Dave when do you think you might have it all squared away and posted? Cheers, Greg

    Bitter & Twisted Competition

Hi - anyone know if we are getting any closer to having the style guidelines defined for the 2008 comp? Looking at last year's guidelines its confusing - there is no category number for the "Australian Ale" and category number 12 appears twice, i.e. for "Porter" and for "Belgian and French Ale"...

    2008 Castle Hill Competition

Hi - is there a limit to the number of entries per class and per style? I can't find any reference to it in the Entry Form. Cheers, Greg

    Sabsosa 2008

Hi - just looking for confirmation on the day/date to have entries in by - both the SABSOSA website and the Entry Form say Friday 30th August - but 30th August is a Saturday... I assume entries will close Saturday 30th August? Also assume that Brew Maker is open on this day? Cheers, Greg
