    Giving Away Beer For Free

Hi guys, I've been brewing beer for a while and seem to just stock my beer. I'd like to be able to brew beer specifically for a few different meetups around the city (Usually less than 50 people). I'm not looking to be a brewery, but perhaps make 40 liters a month that would never be sold...

    Yeast Autolysis

I pitched my yeast to a wort that was too hot again the other day and my beer stinks of rubber. Can I get rid of this smell/taste by CC'ing for a few weeks? Can I reuse the yeast without worrying about contamination? I haven't had a problem with contamination before.

What's With The Portakegs On Ebay?

Every week I see someone selling one of those 13l portakegs on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...6139083020&rd=1 How much do they usually retail for and are they sold in Melb? Also, is it possible to hook it up to a normal CO2 cylinder?

    Is This A New Idea?

Here I've seen people use pumps to move water from a mash tun to a boiler etc but never constantly to control mash temps. Anyone else have a setup like this?

    Sour Mashing

I]'m planning on making a stout tomorrow so I took 100 grams of 75% ale malt / 25% roasted barley and added it to 250mls of water in a saucepan. Heated it to 68, left for twenty minutes then returned and raised it back up again. 45 mins all up. I then added a tablespoon of dry ale malt/roast...

    Witbier Tastes Like Wine

I tried out Doc's saison ale recipe a few weeks ago and bottled it on sunday. The weather has been quite hot over the last few weeks and at one point in the fermentation the beer hit 28 degs! Secondary fermentation was kept around 20 degs for a week and a half. When I racked the beer, it...

False Bottom For A Rectangular Esky

I recently drilled a hole in my 25l esky about an inch from the bottom in order to attach the tap in easily. The manifold I use now doesn't quite touch the bottom of the esky so I'm missing out on quite a bit of extract which is giving me low efficiency. Has anyone made a false bottom for a...

    Corona Mills In Melb

I read this article over at craftbrewer and had no idea mills could be found for that price. Anyone know where I can get something similar to that? I only crush small amounts of grain (2-4kg) a batch so it doesn't need to be huge.

    Few Mashing Questions

Mashing with 3650 grams of grain. I heated 9.1 litres of water to 75deg in order for it to even to 68. I've used 3.5 litres of water extra over the past 30 minutes to keep the temperature stable. Will this be a problem? Can I just subtract the amount from my sparge water? I've also had to...

What Is Wyeast 1084 Supposed To Taste Like?

I had a an old wyeast packet which took a week to swell up. I've never used it before and I had a bit of a taste of the pure yeast today. it tasted quite strange =/ I could certainly see it being used in a stout, but I'm not sure if the yeast had gpone off / I had left it at a too high...

    Longneck Bottles

Do people raid the bins outside pubs or do they just reuse what they have? I'm pretty sick of using 330ml beer and 700ml wine bottles. Prefer to have some sort of uniform bottle. What are my options?

    Promash Reports And Sparge Amounts

I admit I'm quite new to AG brewing, but I'm trying to follow the recipe from a promash report to make a foreign stout. The mash water amount is clearly noted down, but not the sparge amount? This is the recipe: http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...?showtopic=3008 (I'm making a ten...

    Propogating Wyeast

I had a small amount of wyeast leftover from a brew that I put in a glass bottle. Yesterday, I mixed a few tablespoons of DME with boiled water and added the small amount of yeast. Today, I can clearly see the residue on the bottom of the bottle has tripled, but the wort seems to be far too...

    $20 23 Litre Eskies

Bought one of these the other day. Tested it by filling it halfway with 55 deg water. After an hour, the water had lowered to 52 degrees. Not bad for so cheap.

    20-25l Esky

I've been to a few stores, and I can't seem to find any 20-25 eskys with taps. I've decided to start brewing 10 litre batches of AG so a I don't need large mash tun. The other day I came across a 15 plastic bucket that I could convert, but what kind of insulation would I put around it to keep...

Guy Selling Homebrew In The Mx Today

I read the article in the train but forgot to keep a copy of the paper. Some bloke in Melbourne is selling slabs of his homebrew for $8 and also hosting taste testing parties. Anyone know anything about this guy?

    Coopers Special Old Stout

Anyone have a good allgrain recipe for this beer, or at least an allgrain recipe for a brilliant stout?

    Cold Conditioning

I don' t have a spare fridge to store my recently racked ale so I've put it in the back shed where the temp is around 10-12 degrees. Is this too warm for cold conditioning? I've read it's best to keep it as close to zero as possible. I'm going to put the fermenter in a large plastic box filled...
