    Racecourse Keg Lid?

I have an issue, I bought a few kegs for my old man a few years ago off ebay and one of them is a racecourse style keg. As the name implies its not a perfect oval shape lid, and it has almost flat sides and has a shape lick a racecourse. The keg lid has a hole drilled in it and a plastic...

I have a few questions regarding these barrels I acquired a year ago, my sweet as brewing brother in law found some equipment on ebay including wine press, 6 barrels with airlocks, and a grape crushed for under $500. I bought them for my cider trees and am planning to brew a heap of cider but...

    Dry Enzyme-What type is it?

Does anyone know what the average store bought 'dry enzyme' is? Is it Fungal α-amylase or is it α-amylase? I have a feeling its the fungal variety and if so are they similar, meaning can it be used in the mash like a-amylase. I assume the fungal variety its the same only it comes from plants...

Any tricks for settling out the trub after using Whirlfloc .

I have used whirlfoc only 3 times, the first few where for ale's and I was shoked how much trub and break fell out but I could see it was all clumped together like little clouds and shed loads of wort was still in-between the trub and break. I decide to not to use it again due to varying...

Beer smith Anchor Steam Clone. Amylase enzyme?

Has anyone brewed the Anchor Steam clone on the Beersmith recipe downloads? And if so did you use the amylase enzyme? I have dry enzyme which I assume is the same thing, should I add this or leave it out. Also beersmith doesn't seem to change the FG with the amylase enzyme in the recipe, I know...

Funky Beer, And Not In The Good Sense.

So I have had 2 infections in the past month, never had any before. I did a Saison a month ago and it was stuffed so put it through the alcohol condenser (nudge nudge, wink wink). AND it has happened again to a Kolsch I brewed around the same time. I think it was the my immersion chiller that...

    Mini Cubed Starters.

I usually make my own starters and add washed yeast. I was a bit bored this morning and got another 7 mini cubes organised for my next few brews, thought I would post as someone might find interesting/useful. I find this super easy using old mustard/condiment bottles, I add the hot wort and...

    Caramelized Wort Techniques.

Howdy, I made my first 'Scottish Heavy 70/' a few days ago and caramelized 3.8Lt of wort in a pot, then added it back to the boil for a 21Lt batch. I wasn't really sure how far to go with the reducing as I didn't want to burn the proteins in the wort, as they surely would have burnt before the...

    Hydrometer Readings A C02 Absorption?

This is going to be a stupid question I can just tell. Does anyone regularly flatten there beer from the fermenter before taking a hydrometer reading. P:itching Washed Yeast No Starter?

I have been washing yeast for awhile and I usually make 1 lt starters to ensure the yeast is healthy especially when it's a few months old. I made a beer 2 days ago and as I have too busy I just pitched 2 of my washed yeast samples which would be about 50ml. The yeast was 3 months old and...
