    Electrical smell from Crown Urn.

I'm worried. I did a brew today and before I started my boil I got a whiff of an electrical burning smell from the temp adjustment knob on my Crown urn. I decided to push on and completed the boil and brew, stepping up for mash out and even adjusting to get my usual boil without any problems...

    Regulator questions.

In the process of building a keezer and gathering all the necessities. ATM I'm starting with two taps but have room for a third even a fourth later and would like to futureproof in a way that will allow for this. For now one tap will be for Stouts, the other for Ales mostly. Looking a...

    Bohemian Pilsner fermenting temp recommendation.

My first foray into a such a different style to what I'm used to. I'm feeling a little giddy. My FV fridge won't know whats going on. I've bought a pre-measured out all-grain recipe as follows; 4.5kg WY Bohemian Pilsner, 0.45kg BR Dextrin, 0.3kg WY Vienna, 0.1kg WY Acidulated. 30g Saaz @...

    Bottle infusers.

Came across this today. And while my first thought was sex toy, I eventually began to realise the possibilities of it's true intention. Could this solve the lack of longevity of hops aroma people have been wrestling with in a recent thread. Could I start using it for a ginger addition...

    Nitro at Starbucks.

Not sure if this has come up before but I did search with no result. Had to take a photo of it as I've never seen it before. Saw them pouring it and thought Starbucks might have been trying for a larger demographic. Even as I drink it I have this utterly deceived feeling as the coffee hits my...

    Honey Ma Gold Ale

Had one of these Ales at Great Leap Brewing in Beijing a few days ago and was impressed. It'll be a while before I can return for a taste and I liked the idea of using Sichuan peppercorns and honey in an ale, thought it's another to try brewing. Somehow it tasted just right. Not much info to go...

    ESB with Lyles black treacle?

As a variation to my latest ESB which turned out reasonably ok, I thought to try subbing the 4% of CaraAroma I used in the same recipe for a tin or so of Lyles. Does this sound silly? Should I go 50/50 on this and the Cara? Does my head look big in this hat? 21L batch 4.5kg Maris Otter 0.5kg...

    Burnt Barrel - Outback BrewBQ

Yesterday's lazy day effort with the family. Unfortunately it was pissing down for the most part, so I need to go back on a warmer day or evening to reassess and taste test. Not very far out of town less than half an hour drive (some big city dwellers drive double that to work each day). This...

    Monteith Pale Ale.

Went to a local food and drinks expo last weekend and came across this pale ale being served up by a mobile setup. Nice drop with plenty of aroma, but when I asked the guy what hops they used for it he got a bit defensive and explained they couldn't say. All a bit secret squirrel. I didn't...

    Wanted - fluted MillMaster.

If anyone has a second hand one of these in reasonable shape, I'd love to buy it. The new price is a little disconcerting, but I can see my $119 Ebay special isn't going to go the miles I need it to. Maybe someone on here has upgraded to something better, or has one sitting and yearning to be...

Poorly made Erlenmeyer flask - Will it fall off?

I bought my very first erlenmeyer flask this week from Fleabay, yes I can hear the laughter already, but I don't have many places to buy something like this where I am so I went ahead and took the risk. What I got was a 2L one, and while I thought the glass thickness would be thin for the price...

    Extra Stout.

    Yesterday's effort, now sitting at pitching temp in a cube in the fridge - 21L BIAB batch. 5 kg - B.B malt, 350g - Roasted Barley, 200g - Caramalt, 100g - Choc malt, 500g - Cane sugar. EKG - 50g @ 60, EKG - 20g @ 40. I'm getting an O.G at 1.070, which a guess is higher than I expected due to...

Coopers 750mL glass - No refill?

A kind and knowledgeable Gentleman pointed out to me today that Coopers changed their bottles, dunno when, and some are marked as 'no refill' close to the base. Further inspection of my stockpile shows all the recent ones I've bought for from the bottlo have this. My older ones don't, and there...

    Comet and Pale Malt.

Guys I've got 100g of Comet hops and want to make something tonight. Got on hand plenty of Pale Malts(Maris, BB, GP) with a smattering of Vienna, CaraAroma, flaked barley. Would the Comet variety carry enough for a Bitter style? Reading up it suggests that it's a bittering hop.
