Former tenant red IPA - Modus Operandi

Sounds about right. I was also thinking of swapping out a little crystal for some Cararoma which has a nice red hue, could maybe then cut the choc back to just a whisper. this is my modified Red IPA recipe if anyones interested. 25L BIAB 6 kg BB Pale 0.35 kg Carapils 0.15 kg Cararoma 0.15 kg...

    New England/Zealand IPA recipe critique

Yep minimal bittering charge, huge 2 stage whirlpool at flameout and 70ish C, then the same amount again dry. I'll be enjoying one tonight, they go down a treat when super fresh.

Former tenant red IPA - Modus Operandi

I can give a little advice, tried to brew a red IPA a few months ago, I don't have the recipe right now but I used 150g of choc in a 25L batch and it was too much, came out murky brown/black and smothered the hops a bit. I would halve that or even less for next time. Also I wouldn't bitter with...

    IPA critique

Yeah I'd second that, the ibu's you get from whirlpooling aren't quite the same as a bittering charge. I put down an ne Ipa recently with a 30g magnum hit at 60 and then 180g of mosaic and citra in the whirlpool. It's balanced, but so smooth that I wish I put a little more magnum up front. Looks...

    Help, pale ale aroma

The biggest thing for me was just quantities of late and dry hops. I bumped it up from ~2g/l to 4g+ late and dry and the difference was night and day. I've gone as high as 8g/l in some big ipa's, never feels wasted.

    Flavour Profile

You could always poor off a bit of your finished beer into another glass, leave it for a while to go warm/flat and have a taste. If it tastes dull and watery you can safely assume the carbonation is contributing to the final taste, if it tastes better than the fv samples then maybe the bottle...

Double IPA or West Coast IPA

Yeah any clean bittering hop will do fine in place of the magnum, from memory I think the total ibu's were around 70

Double IPA or West Coast IPA

This is a partial mash recipe for a big american Ipa I put down recently. Came out a treat, big citrus flavour and aroma from the citra, but you can easily sub the hops for any similar ones you have on hand. 23L 3kg ldme 500g Vienna 500g carapils 250g crystal 60L 33g magnum @ 60 15g citra...
