Joined the club of boil over...

Wheat beer. Did the 2k of torrified wheat in a pan. 12l pan and it basically resembled porridge. I used a bucket with hundreds of holes with another bucket underneath to sparge. Took about 3 hours to this stage. Went out and came back three hours later. It was very cold outside so I...

Have just done the mash of the grains. Went outside and drained and sparged. Now the wind has got up and I cannot do the boil. Will it be okay to boil tomorrow? Really fecked off! Going to have to build a sheltered place outside! Need a shed. Big one.

Bottle usage / There must be an easier way... Challenge accepted

I have a dream. A dream where I drink a beer, rinse it out, cap the bottle, fill it up, repeat... My current process (Using Grolsch bottles) : Drinking : 1. Empty bottle into a glass. 2. Drink beer. 3. Rinse the bottle. (Sodium Metabisulphite solution from a barrel with a tap) 4...

gone to the dark side. cling film for lid.

Made my second irish red this week. Forgot to clean a lid and thought about time I tried out the cling film method. Just so happens that I had a bag of huge elastic bands so I used one of those. The barrel on the left is a Brown ale. The other two are the irish reds. I miss the sound...

Grolsch bottles for ginger beer? Non explode?

I have a ginger beer to bottle today and I am being overly cautious about bottle bombs. The fg has not moved for two weeks - even with moving the barrel to get the yeast back into suspension. My question is - will the tops allow extreme pressure to be released?

I think I have lost it!

I have a barrel without a lid. I have a lid without a barrel. They both do not match. I am pretty sure I have all my barrels. Was going to brew tonight but can't! 1. I have lost one barrel and one lid. 2. I have placed the wrong lid on another barrel I am sure it is the first option...

    TCP Smell, taste (Partial mash)

Tasted my newly bottled IPA a couple of days ago. It stinks. Tastes bad. Like TCP. I was really looking forward to it and even used all my swing tops that I have been saving up! Might have been caused by leaving sterilisation fluid in the barrel for a few days. It was rinsed and I don't...

    Beer Fairies and ramblings

I love when at the point of awaking I remember all of the work that I have done the day (night) before! Yesterday I tidied up my bottles, bottled a batch of wheat beer and sterlised enough bottles for 35 liters of beer, started receipe for Beast III and came to the conclusion that I have to brew...

Wheat Beer Error. Wrong malt extract used...

Made an error last night. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it! Some of the local lads might have heard me cursing... I was on the final step really and was adding in the liquid wheat extract. I happened to glance at the tin that I was pouring in and it occured to me that light...

    Made a couple...

I am officially back into the brewing. :) Since I last wrote I have made and bottled 2xstouts, 1 wheat beer, 1 irish red, 1 ginger beer. All partial mash. My plan was to go all grain within 12 months (that was 2 months ago). Going to be a lot sooner than that, next month I am getting an urn...

First partial mash Wheat Beer (HELP!)

I am looking to make this in the next couple of days (maybe tonight) My main question is on the grains. I used BeerSmith and have not updated anything to do with the usage of them. Does it look correct? Basically the water is at 72.8c, add the bag of grain (cracked of course!). This then...

Just thought that I should say hello again. I have managed to get brewing again after a six year break. Kids have grown up a little and I have some (albeit a little) spare time now. I am aiming to go all-grain within 12 months. Just made my first kitless stout with : Dark liquid Extract...

Beer Shops In Hobart / Tasmania

I am wondering if there are any members here that know of any good bottle shops in the Hobart area, or even Tasmania? I moved here from Scotland about 5 years ago and I am still trying to taste all of the beers available :D
