Late hop addition or steeping solution to fermenter only for aroma?

Its an indepth read but some argue that dry hopping does increase bitterness, check out the link below. http://scottjanish.com/increasing-bitterness-dry-hopping/

    Hop juice?

So I was emptying a couple of kegs I had dry hopped heavily in. The remnants of the keg hop smelt delcious, so delicous I couldn't let myself throw it down the drain so I collected it. I realised that it smelt stronger and more pungent than the beer I had on keg in it. I was trying to work out...

Mini Keg Discussion / Mods / Show Off - Dedicated Thread

I just wanted to shout out for ATHB as our local supplier. I had a leaky keg and within 3 days had a replacememt keg at my front door. Cant beat that service. For that reason alone I wouldnt buy anywhere else. On a seperate and more ontopic note, Im rigging up a 300micron ss filter for my 5L...

    Infection Photo Thread

Well I feel like an idiot then haha, its wlp029, i made up a large starter but it was old'ish yeast. I just have never seen so much brown muck on top of any of my other beers.

    Infection Photo Thread

So I have never had an infection in any of my brews yet, been getting more slack with my process thinking I was overthinking it. New fementor and have never seen anything like this before, is it ruined?

    La Sirene Praline recipe?

Yeah I was just going to do a small batch of it, I've done 2 brews now but they have just been basic stouts to work out cocao nibs/vanilla contributions. I don't really know what a belgian stout base is so while these have been tasty beers, the malt profile isn't the same and theres a lack of...

    Yeast Community Sales?

Yeah I agree, I guess that wasn't my main point and didn't mean to come across that way. I don't doubt this forum for being strongly community based at all, It's obviously just harder to organise free community swaps that get the most out of the situation. Anyway if we are going down the...

    Yeast Community Sales?

This is also a great idea as well. The only thing I see is that unless done properly/easily people may not get involved (I think this has been tried before on this forum). While I prefer the community idea behind swapping I wonder if it would just lead to a small number of people who may already...

    Yeast Community Sales?

I've had my flask and stir plate for the last 6 months or so and have been really happy with how easy and fun yeast harvesting has become. A lot of people on this forum do the same to probably a lot higher standard than I do and have an abundance of strains. It got me thinking instead of driving...

    La Sirene Praline recipe?

Just wondering if anyone has tried brewing a clone of La Sirene's praline or has any guidance for a rough recipe base? Its a very tasty drop and would be great if I could brew something similair. Description is below. A very special Belgian chocolate ale. Building on a Belgian stout base, it is...

Another week, another new home brewing gadget

Seems like using a butterfly valve to dump trub and collect yeast would be the main draw of this. It got me thinking, can butterfly valves take pressure? Do you think theres any way to attatch a butterfly valve to the bottom of a corny key and use it as a pseudo conical and serving vessel in one?

Experiences fermenting lager strains at ale temps?

So far it seems we have a few other yeasts that also seem to do well. My next trial with WLP940 will be a lighter style beer, although for my last batch I kept the hops quite low compared to my usual schedule to try and discern differences. I might keep a log of mine and others feedback in this...

Experiences fermenting lager strains at ale temps?

After doing a few searches I've found most people don't recommend fermenting lager strains at ale temps because of off flavours. I was hoping that anyone who has experimented with different strains might be able to share any experiences they have had with certain lager strains above 15c...

    Not boiling hop additions? Options?

Thanks for the info guys. I started searching and reading into how hop oils interact in the boil and out of the boil ect. Needless to say I opened up a rabbit hole of information. On a side note a few months back I brewed an all grain galaxy smash where I moved most of the hops to the...

    Not boiling hop additions? Options?

Hi guys, I started off doing small batch(10L) BIAB beers and recently because of work commitments have become increasingly time poor. I have started expirementing with unhopped extracts in order to try fit in brewing during the week while still being able to try out new hop combinations. The...

    Fluctuating Mash Temps

Hi guys, I have a question, I've done about 8 All grain batches now and when I mash I wrap a pot up in a towel. I'm doing small 5-10L batches and my temp drops about 3 degrees in 30 minutes. I usually aim for 66 degrees to compensate then at 30 minutes stir and reheat. I sometimes undershoot or...

Oatmeal Stout, 25% oats too much?

Hey guys, trying to brew an oatmeal stout and when I ordered it, I thought 25% rolled oats sounded like a good idea ( I was a few beers in at this stage). Now I'm going to brew it and I'm wondering, is this too much? I also had another idea of dry hopping some toasted oats to impart some of...
