Dedicated Grainfather Guide, Problems and Solutions Thread

So it’s fair to say. The interior of the boiler was never shiny or polished like the bottom or outside?

Cheers. I'll give that a go after the next brew.

yeah the inside. I can't remember if it was at the beginning. I can make the outside shiny with the BKF. So I guessing maybe it was

Anyone know how to bring the shine back to the sides of the boiler? I've tried boiling citric acid and also tried bar keepers friend. The bottom and the element are shiny, just the sides are like a matte finish. Cheers

    Sodium metabisulfite question

When adding sodium metabisulfite to the strike liquor, what would be the go to rate? Should I add the same amount to the sparge liquor as well? Cheers

    Bulk priming high(er) gravity beers

So I just bottled my beer the other night. I based my priming amounts based on the volume in the bottling bucket and the highest temperature the beer reached during fermentation. I racked into the bottling bucket, got my volume and used the carbonation tool in Beersmith, and double checked with...

Thanks. Glad you could understand. I meant highest temp

    Bulk priming high(er) gravity beers

Thanks. My fermenter isn't a see through plastic one. And in the past have had both over and under carbed bottles. I like the idea of taring the receiving vessel and adding my sugar solution based off that. Another question most calculators have a temperature input. Would that be the his best...

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

Cheers. I actually do have a replacement coming for the same fridge. Thanks for the info, explains why there were alot of resistors in the searches. I've got plenty of the same cable from recent purchases I can use if any thing is not long enough or goes belly up. Thanks

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

That explains why I can't really find rubber ones. I was searching ebay for 10k ntc, and they are all metal.

    Bulk priming high(er) gravity beers

Would you say it would be best to rack to the bottling bucket to get the beer volume then use the math to work out the sugar rate for a desired CO2 level? Cheers

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

Cheers. Seems like I cannot find any replacement rubber ones. I've owned several STC's over the years and they have all been the metal - chrome plated kind

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

I've had to replace the original probe as it came with a 1metre one and was way too short to be useful. I'll look for a rubber one that states its waterproof.

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

Yeah it is metal. I'll shop around for a waterproof probe. save mucking around with the paste. As for condensation, that would be the most likely cause. It has gone through fermentation at varying temps and several cold crashes. Thanks

    Corrosion and pitting STC probe

Hi, I've been using my regular STC 1000 to control fermentations in my fridge. In the past I've just been taping the probe to the side of the fermenter with some stubby holder insulation. Just recently I have purchased and installed a 100mm thermowell. During the current batch I've noticed...
