    Crap in starter

Ha, thanks for the no crap tip. Hadn't thought about nutrient. Will use some next starter. I have read 100g per litre of starter is should get you close to 1040 of, which is ideal for starters???

    Crap in starter

G'day Brewers Haven't done many starters, usually use dry yeast...last starter ended up all over the floor. Having a crack now, 2L with 200g DME. Is it usual to see this much solid matter floating around the boil?

    Broken starter

Ok slow post for results...kids are really inconsiderate when it comes time for beer related things. The stout has turned out great. My palate isn't overly sensitive but can't notice the difference with the added coopers yeast compared to other similar brews using US05. All in all success. Is...

    Broken starter

Just bottled my stout, got down to 1020, gives me 66.4% attenuation, 5.5% abc, so not such a bad result. Tastes great. Generally use US05 for my ales. Couldn't really notice much difference having used the coopers yeast also. Will report back once conditioned

    Broken starter

Thanks all. Put the coopers yeast in with the usO5. Was a bit slow getting going, raised from 19.4 to 20, flying along now

    Broken starter

Ok, that's good news. It is coopers yeast I have, but meant more generally speaking that when starting out most everything I read said to get rid of kit yeast and get yourself some quality yeast, eg fermentis or the like.

    Broken starter

G'day brewers Just learnt the hard way not to leave a starter anywhere a 3 year old can reach... Anyhow went to get my reserve bag of yeast, US05, and realised it it best before march just gone. Rehydrated and pitched, under pitching as I have a 22L batch at 1060...only other option is a...

    Co2 suppliers

Ha, yep wrong thing, on fire. So I was looking at keg king ones, would prob get a 6 as purchase and refill seems a lot more economical than a 2.6... Was just trying to save the initial outlay to put towards kegs. I realise the deposit on a place that swaps would be as much as buying one but if...

    Co2 suppliers

Hello brewers Looking to step up from bottling to kegging. A while back I saw Bunnings had swap and go oxygen, just had to pay a deposit for the bottle. Can't seem find it at the moment. Just wondering if there are many about like this where you don't actually have to buy, can just put a...

    Starsan

G'day Brewers Noticed when bottling last batch my Starsan mix became a bit cloudy/milky towards end of bottling...didn't notice at first but once I was pulling caps out of it it was quite noticeable. Last night was bottling again, noticed it again. Had a look in the bottle and there is a brown...

    Ghost in the airlock

    That's another matter though

    Ghost in the airlock

Yep tastes pretty good. It's my first all grain wit, funnily enough doesn't taste as good as my partial wits did

    Ghost in the airlock

3 points off expected fg...can't see it dropping after near two weeks though. How does one fit a kitten in an airlock? Pigmy kitten?
