Mini Keg Discussion / Mods / Show Off - Dedicated Thread

My BBIV 5L had heaps of black grease inside (and a couple of smallish rust spots that I’m not too worried about). I used napisan and boiling water about 3 times and Startsan a few times. I used soap and water soak, nothing made a difference, didn’t really change the colour of the liquid either...

    Tripel Karmeliet clone

Hi Hairydog, did you end up brewing this? I have been following that thread on homebrewtalk for some time with the CSI recipe in mind. I finally go the ingredients and am looking to make on the weekend. As for yeast, I'm planning 3464. Having said that, I'm making a double batch, and have a...

    Double Batch in 70ltr kettle?

Hi Brewsta, your system is big enough as others have said. i'd say it's to vigorous or not controlled enough. in my experience, the boilovers usually happen early when you have the gas cranked trying to get to speed, and you haven't reached hot break yet. Or if you've reached a vigorous boil...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

c Cheers Dr K, Yeah seems like a very similar process, except they boil a second batch rather than me just mixing it cold. the article reaffirms some of the comments above, particularly the 50IBU limit. When I started this thread, I had a Rye IPA fermenting. It's kegged now and completely out...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

Hi PhilipB, I only steeped 500g crystal in the recipe I posted. The 750g pilsner malt in the recipe is extract, and was added once the grains have been removed. This 750 needs to be reduced for hop utilisation, but won't affect the crystal. Cheers Alan

    Saving time/overnight mashing.

I did a few experiments mashing in cold with the aim of overnight brewing, but I struggled with the circulation and had enough stuck mashes that I didn’t have enough confidence to do it whilst away from it. Not major stuck mashes, but needed manual intervention. This may be different on a...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll stick with it, but might up the boil and reduce the OG. i'll use ians spreasheet to try for a more accurate IBU count. cheers. Al

    Mini Keg Bulk Buy MKIV

Hi Zorco, Does this mean that an adaptor isn't included in with a brumby on it's own? [edit] I have entered an additional brumby and disconnect (not in a combo) with the intention of using them with an adaptor. cheers

Hi all, I'm struggling a bit making some decisions, so am after some advice from those with mini keg experience (as i have zero). [edit] submitted somehow before typing the actual questions :) A ) is the flow through a brumby too fast, and will i end up with too much head. B ) has anyone used...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

Thanks DB, cheers for the link to the spreadhseet. the IBUs come out at about 30 if I put "Use the Hop Concentration Factor" on. this seems more accurate. i'll have a better play around with it on my next brew. cheers,

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

Thanks pmcfisher, you make a valid point. To be honest, I don’t really need 50IBU very often, BUT even to get 30IBU, the4L boil, would need to be 150. Beersmith does somewhat modify the IBU based on the size of the boil, but doesn’t work properly for this situation. Maybe I’ll aim to do larger...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

Thanks manticle, that's what I thought too. Yeah the beer is actually pretty good. better than I was expecting. The main challenge I have is getting the bitterness correct, as I'm sure it's not as bitter as beersmith states. May also need to add some amount of sugar to dry it out a little, but...

My Extract Brew Method - please criticise

Hi guys, I have been an AGer for about 11 years now, but with 2 young kids, I now struggle for time. I’ve been doing some Extract so I can do it on a week night once kids are asleep, with decent results. I would like to get your take on my method, and if there are any issues, as it’s different...

What are you brewing in 2017 ?

I brewed this on the weekend, currently in fermenter. Based largely on Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA Clones. I’m really looking forward to this beer. Volume: 45L (actually got 52L) OG: 1.064 (actually got 1.059) IBU: 56 Efficiency: 75% (actually 80%) Colour: 21EBC 10kg Gladfield Ale Malt 1.7kg...

    Soda Stream Adapter and Reg

Thanks for sorting this out Ziggy. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a second seal either. BUT I wasn't expecting one, so it's possible it was still in the bubble wrap when I threw it out I guess. Thanks again.

    Soda Stream Adapter and Reg

Hi Ziggy I tried mine this morning and have the same issue, so you're not going crazy. I don't think a bigger seal is the correct solution. Cheers Aan
