    No Krausen

I see little krausen activity on my starters too. As for Star San ..... don't fear the foam.

A good but very simple and basic recipe

Great set up. +1 from me on the hoses. I did an early brew where I filled from the hose. Spent quite some time trying to work out what fault I had developed using trouble shooting guides before I narrowed it down to the classic aussie summer hose taste.

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

Just closing the loop and reporting back on this one. This yeast delivered satisfactory flavours when fermented at 25 degrees. Banana and clove / peppery esters consistent to style. A fast ferment as you would expect at that temp with candy syrup and had reasonable attentiveness. Good...

    Leaving wort overnight

Same. Only did it once and the following day there was a pellicle on top of the wort for a Belgian. All good though as it turned out to be one of the best beers I ever made! Must try to replicate some day. Edit: found the thread I started at the time with a pic. Actually started out making a...

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

Keep it simple. Pitch a pack into a 1L starter using 100g of DME. Usually around 1.040

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

You are ok with pitching on the dregs but don't think you can do starters with dried yeast? What's the difference?

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

Nah. If you need a certain number of cells not achievable through one pack then you either buy extra packets or use a starter to hit that number. It really is no different to liquid yeast.

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

    I made a 1L starter using 1 pack for a 23L wort at 1.055

Thanks anyway guys. I will try a ferment in the middle of that range and report back.

    Mangrove Jack's M31 Belgian Tripel.

Anyone had experience with this yeast? I have a pack in the fridge and was going to knock something together. Large fermentation range given of 18 degrees - 28 degrees. Am wondering what to expect flavour wise at either end of that scale. Esters? Sulphur? More info: will be making something in...

Happy to help out with the O2. Might leave the experimentation to those who have paved the way.

Always give a good stir before taking a sample as you do get stratification within the wort. Make sure to cool or adjust for temp when taking a reading (Brewer's Friend have a calculator for this). As for mash times and different mash times (and obviously temps) achieve different things so the...

That is what I do with flame out additions however your 20 minute hopstand is a perfectly valid option depending on what you are looking to achieve. Just that if you do go that way know that it impacts the rest of the hop schedule which you may need to make allowance for. By far the easiest way...

Dedicated Grainfather Guide, Problems and Solutions Thread

If you are doing a 20 min hop stand you need to adjust your timings in whatever software you are using (eg. Any 30 min addition is now actually more like a 50 min equivalent). This will normally mean higher ibu's of course. Likewise your 0 min additions are likely adding some ibu's due to the...
