    Learning the ph

This is true, but even as a rough guide it has increased the quality of my brew, if you make the effort to accurately measure it I'm sure it is going to be better again. I suffer from closed wallet syndrome so I'll keep going like this until something changes and I'm forced to properly measure it.

    Learning the ph

I got a Brisbane water report and use the EZ water calc spreadsheet, using that it turns out that for most brews I need 6 grams of Gypsum, 6 grams of Calc Chloride and 100 grams of Acidulated malt. I haven't actually measured the ph but I can say for sure that since I've started doing this my...

Extract Brewing with Citrus Peel. Your Experience?

I haven't used orange peel but I am currently onto a bit of a mutant wit where I used about 4 tablespoons of orange marmalade, 30 grams of coriander seed, hersbrucker and Hallertau. The grain was 1.5 kg of wheat, .250g of biscuit, 250g of munich, mashed for an hour at 65C, 2 kg of light dry...

Improve home brew kits - next level from beginner up

As already said, adding steeped grains to the brew will provide more body. I personally got about 10 kits under my belt then moved to extract, using .5 to a kilo of grain in the cook, that combined with good temp control and good yeast has seen me make some really nice beer

    mash temp too warm?

My mini mash has sometimes got away from me for a short amount of time, up to those temps, I haven't noticed any off flavours, though as I say, it was only briefly

Last time I take her advice?

Out of interest, I did up an extract US brown yesterday , used rehydrated US05, pitched at 15, had nice foam formed 15 hours later, checked it again this arvo, 26 hours after pitch and its pumping

    Fermenting temperature

I don't have a fridge but I put my fermenter in a plastic tub put some water in and then freeze around 4 lts of ice in tuppaware, throw some in before work, some more when I get home, some more before bed, its not ideal but I have been holding my current brew at 22c and its been 30c plus all...

    Good hop combinations for APA

I've just started drinking what I think is a great brew, Centennial for bitterness, Perle, Cascade then another Perle addition for flavour. Will do this combo again for sure.

150 Lashes clone, Coopers tin and extract

I'd go with Kevin's suggestion, or you could try this, It wont be a 150 lashes but I'd use the Coopers tin and the Caramalt, make up a hop tea using the Amarillo and some Nelson, brew with S-04 or US05, keep the wheat and the rest of your hops for the next brew.

    best kit and kilo

My favourite kit and kilo was Morgans Blue Mountain Lager, Morgans Caramalt, a steeped ale grain pack with a small boil of Cascade, toped to 23 ltrs and brewed with S04 yeast, always came out nice.

Coopers Lager tin + extras. Result?

Should be pretty good, a mate at work throws down something similar a fair bit and it always turns out nice, Brosy is right on the conditioning, my mates brews always take a while to reach their peak.
