The Brauduino (Matho’s Controller) Build/Advice/Question Thread

Sure, an alternative, for a controller with a 20x4 screen. Not sure if one would fit in my box as I have the buttons quite close to the screen.

Ah, figures. Not a big deal, gonna see about updating the screen. Not a priority though - beer comes first ;)

The Brauduino (Matho’s Controller) Build/Advice/Question Thread

I've got a strange problem with my controller. Cant run newer versions, like 2.8.3RC on it. The PWM menu shows no values, so I am unable to do adjustments. With 2.6.62 I can do them just fine. Any ideas? I have a 16x2 screen and all setup adjustments are equal with both versions.

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Next brew is gonna be a Guinness clone. Ingredients already arrived so as soon as I can find the time I'll get it going. First brew, K.I.S.S IPA now in secondary fermentation under the house @ 14c, with 50g Centennial hops.

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Nice solution I'm sure, post some pics, please? :super: Monitored my box and connector temps during mash and boil. Connectors and heatsink at 40-50c degrees when both the pump and heating element are on / drawing full power. Opened my box after the brew to check nothing melted or broke and...

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Did my first brew during the weekend. My top plate didnt stay level (had no tubing to support it so no surprise it didnt), so some malt ended up in the wort. Other than that it went well. Ended up with some 12 litres of wort (started out with 23 litres + 2 litres for the sparge). Gravity was a...

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

I've been carefully testing out my rig the past few weeks. A little concerned for my power cables as the heating element and main connecting cable get a bit warm when Im drawing full power. Otherwise everythings running nicely, the insulated pot helps the heat build up quick. Still waiting for...

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Wohoo, now we're cooking...and soon even brewing back here in Finland too. Rewired the pump (had it connected to the SSR earlier, so that explained the wierd behavior). All good now as I moved it to the AC input. Temp sensor still at 0c so don't know whats up with that.

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

First startup for my build didn't go to well for the electronics side. Temperature sensor was showing all kinds of readings, nothing close to the real water temp. Heater just snapped and blinked the light as i tried to start it and the pump showed no signs of life at all. I suspect I could have...

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Last night I filled up with warm water and let it cool down, no leaks in the morning so I guess im ready to hook up the electrics and get going! Filter plates need a little smoothing out and I probably need a bar to hold everything down too.

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Finally got my Braumiser nearly completed (only some 3 years in total, moving back to Finland, renovating the house and life in betveen). Having problems with leaks a i pour in cold water. Small ripping, does not happen if I fill in hot water.

    Matho's controller

It's this one: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/lcd-bezel-16x2?keyword=lcd%20bezel You could find a more local source by googling Lcd Bezel 16x2 etc., that's how I found this one. I cut out all the taps and mounting stuff and just glued it flat to the case. Dirt cheap, very effective. No way I was...

    Matho's controller

Got my controller going properly: Issue with the LCD backlight was a short on the LCD unit, where the backlight runs over the PCB edge, an image to show the point:

Ditto that. Taking it easy is the way to go.

    Matho's controller

Okay, I understand. I could achieve a similar effect by lowering or jumpering the resistor on the PCB, right? Checked mine and they seem to be the right ones, Im pretty certain as I had to go out and buy them separately as I managed not to order them in my main part order. Any guru opinions...

    Matho's controller

The display Im using is this: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/lcd/lcd-16-2-backlight-blue Would it be possible to lower the value of R6 on the Braumiser board? It's the 120ohm resistor that sits before pin 15.

    Matho's controller

Thanks for your reply and work with the development too! As I uderstand the LCD backlight is controlled trough pins 15 and 16 on the LCD board, labelled A and K. With the original Bramuiser connection I can measure 2.2v between these points. I don't know how to work around the problem, would...

    Matho's controller

Although I got the LCD working and the controls seem okay, I think my backlight in off for the LCD. It is very hard to read. Anything I need to change in the code to enable it? I run ArdBir now.

That was it! Love the simple solution :super: Onwards with the rest of the build. Cheers!
