Hi, i am redoing the coopers nut brown and golen ale recipes, my all time favourites. Just realised i bought dark crystal malt as oppised to the lighter variety. Ditch my fermenter

Hi, ive been hit by 5 brews in a row that arent obviously infected to look at but seem to have a bittery after taste which gets worse with age. Drinkeable, but not nice. They also seem a bit fizzy, there is head, but more gassy than lacey. No bottle bombs yet. I have temp control. My coopers...

    bench top bottle capper

Hi, got a bench top bottle capper for Christmas. I'm nervous about how high above the bottle I should set the machine. Eg if its too low and I pull the lever all the way down, will it smash the bottle. I am assuming the lever needs to pull all the way down?

    Fridge ambient temp v fermenter

Hi, Just got a fridge and have a temperature controller hooked up. The controller shows 13.5 whereas the fermenter plastic strip says 16. I have the temp sensor sitting next to the fermenter (not stuck to it). Would i expect this much difference? or is the sticky perhaps wrong (i've had it for...

    stubbies v tallies carbonation

i am drinking another batch of home brew. for a while I have been wondering why the carbonation from my reused stubbies are better than my pet tallies. I have come to the conclusion that its a volume thing ie a tallie is 740 mls a stubbie is 330 to 350. 1 drop goes further in a stubbie than 2...

    Squeezing before bottling

I have read in a few places that if you squeeze the air out of a PET botlle after filling and before putting the cap on that you will get better carbonation. Is this an old wives tale? Also, thinking of pimping up a Coopers Lager with the following - am I on the right track? 1 Coopers Lager 1...

the quickest way to get bottles clean enough

Still a newbie, bottling another batch tomorrow. Do people go o,verboard with cleanliness? I can understand being anal with the fermenter as you can lose a whole batch with infection. With bottles I'm happy to lose the odd bottle if it means avoiding the whole rigmarole some go through to get...

Best value for online purchases of kits and bits

Hi, Just wondering what people's opinions are on the best value online sites for home brew purchases. On face value, the cheapest and most reasonable I have been able to find is http://discounthomebrewwarehouse.com.au/ although that was until I realised the shipping cost adds almost 50% to the...

    best enhancements for your buck

Hi, I have put through 5 brews now. The first 4 basically used Coopers kits (ale/lager/draught/pale ale) with a BE or Coopers malt addition (and golden syrup added in another). The last brew ingredients I got down at my LHBS which consisted of a mangrove jacks classic bitter, a brewcraft beer...

    disappearing fizz

I bottled 4 coopers batches in October/November using pet bottles and carb drops. The first lager batch took ages to carbonate but now is plenty fizzy with a great head. The pale ale, real ale, and Irish amber ale recipes all carbonated nicely in the first month and were great drinking up till...
