2017 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

In Gloucester, NSW and most of my varieties have popped there heads out. So far the Cascade and Victoria are the most active. Growth of probably close to 1m in several of the Victoria. Saaz, Perle, Tettnanger, US Goldings, Hallertau, Columbus and Chinook have all put out a shoot. No activity...

2017 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

I'm no expert on cementing wood into holes but be careful with rot. Up here the wood shrinks and the water sits around the wood rotting it. What you end up with is several big concrete blocks in your garden and a post that rots away a lot quicker due to sitting in water all the time. I'm not...

    mandarina-bavaria

I've just had a James Squires Darkside Jaffa Porter that uses this. Was a nice way to add the "Jaffa" flavour.

Whirlpool Vessi. Possibly a cheaper WW?

I don't think so. I think they have one in a pub in Ireland that they run but that's about it.

What caused you to change your job

I'm a couple of months into 1 year parental leave at the moment. I've worked in mining since leaving Uni, nearly 10 years and so has my partner. I'm loving the break and it's probably been one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's giving a whole new perspective on work. It's not so much...

    Dry hopping and cold crash

My understanding of the difference between the bitterness you get from adding to the boil and dry hopping is due to the acids you are extracting. Adding during the boil, you are extracting mainly alpha acids via isomerization (the boiling changes the character of the acid, it takes time so...

Whirlpool Vessi. Possibly a cheaper WW?

I don't think it is just for extract. You can produce your wort in anyway you see fit and then add to the system. It appears to be a fancy unitank. There is a few systems appearing on kickstarter style pages that are more like what you are after. https://www.picobrew.com/...

Australia State by State Quarantine on Hops Rhizomes

Internal quarantine within Australia is almost pointless. I could just as easily get a rhizome sent from VIC to SA and then on to myself in NSW as easily as just picking one up in a shop in Melbourne when down to watch football and then driving straight back up the Hume into NSW. Also to think...

    Spent Grain Muesli

My Golden Retrievers don't play well with chickens. Or ducks for that matter. I know what you mean though, maybe I can start bartering with the guy on the street. Spent grain for eggs.

    Spent Grain Muesli

Hey Guys and Gals, Not even sure this is in the correct thread but I'm looking for a tried and true Muesli Bar recipe or something of that nature for the spent grain after a brew day. It seems a waste to throw it into the compost. Any ideas will be truly appreciated.
