Floating dip tube in 29l kegland kegmenter

Hi all, Can anyone tell me how long they have cut their floating dip tubes when using them with the 29l kegmenters kegland have been selling? Or, is it possible that you don't need to cut it short and that the float will still provide enough space to keep yeast/trub out of the tube? I only...

    English Bitter carbonation

Looking for advice from people who regularly make these beers and keg them. I'm not sure what the best way is to ensure I get and keep the ideal carbonation levels. I'm thinking I will need to naturally carbonate the keg and then use the valve on the manifold to turn the gas on and off as needed...

    High gravity brewing

Hi all, sorry for the slight duplication, as I've also mentioned this in the pressure fermenting thread... This weekend I'll be brewing a 1.140 dopplebock. I've never brewed a beer this big and I have a couple of questions. 1. This will be my first time using an o2 setup. Given the gravity...

    Shortening dip tubes

How do you guys do this? I am a bit of a 'diy but actually have no clue' kind of bloke. Going to dedicate 2 cornies to pressure fermenting and have had a few issues with transferring on my first attempt... I know bending is also an option.

How much O2 gets utilised during bottle conditioning?

I've been thinking about this for a while now and haven't found a consistent answer online. How much of the o2 in the headspace of a standard bottle of homebrew gets consumed during the bottle fermentation? All? Some?

Who else drinks their starter beer?

So last night it occurred to me that the chilled beer sitting on top of my fermented wlp004 starter was too good to tip. It was made using actual hopped, all grain wort from my last batch, rather than dry extract. So I filled up two pet bottles grabbed a carbonation cap, force carbed it and it...

    Where to source Fermcap-s

Hi guys, I'm having trouble locating a supplier for fermcap-s. Clever Brewing supplies are the only local hbs I can find with it but they have a minimum postage that makes it a bit exy. Keg King and Liquor Craft both sell a foam reducer for distilling and I'm not sure if this is...

    Off taste/smell from beer lines

I regularly tip the first 100ml of whatever has been sitting in the beer lines overnight as it has a noticeable plastic/chrmical type smell/taste. Really noticeable in soda water. Is this normal or does it sound like my little line cleaning regime needs to be stepped up? I aim to run through...

    Is this cube swollen?

Hi guys, I've lost all perspective and I can't tell if this is slowly swelling up or normal. From memory, the cube was quite full on brew day, almost no squeezing before screwing the cap. Still looks to have a slight indentation from vacuum up high but it looks like it's belying out down low...

    Hop spider temperature

Hi guys, I was brewing with two stainless (keg King) hop spiders in a friend's robo brew the other day. I noticed that the boil was much less vigorous in the spiders so I tested the temps and noted the the wort in the spiders was only about 95 deg c. I've also noticed that the wort drains really...

Robo malt pipe in 50l keggle

Hey guys, I've just discovered that a mate's malt pipe from his gen 1 robo brew fits perfectly into my 50l keggle which has a narrowish opening. I'm thinking this would be pretty handy for my current gas biab setup especially if trying to do a bigger batch with a sparge. It could also be good...

    KK spunding valve

Hi guys, simple question for anyone with one of these. How do you increase/deacrease the psi? Does screwing the end of the valve in towards the guage increase the pressure or decrease the pressure? I'm trying mine out for the first time on a beer that has been fermenting for 5 days in a 19l...

    Will this be terrible?

So I am part way through the mash for a Schneider style Weiss which had a grain bill of: Pale wheat: 3.77 kg Vienna: 1kg Pilsner: 1kg Carramunich: 350g I was just looking back at my biab spreadsheet and I realised that I completely stuffed the grain bill up when I wrote it down (trying to do 20...

    Biab step mash

Hi guys, I'm looking to try this Bavarian what beer from the ahb data base : https://aussiehomebrewer.com/threads/recipedb-schneider-weisse-style.20713/ It says to do a 50 deg infusion for 20 minutes then mash at 63 deg for an hour. My questions are : Does this still work if doing a full...

    Can sourdough infect my brewery?

This thought only just occurred to me after proving a loaf in my fermentation fridge which also has a nearly finished black IPA. Am I introducing wild yeast into the environment? Or am I being crazy?

    Gelatin's effect on yeast cake

I'm looking to pour a fresh wort kit directly onto the us05 yeast cake of the batch I'm currently fermenting. I usually add gelatin when cold crashing on primary. Will the yeast cake still be viable if I do this? Can add gelatin to the keg instead, but I usually prefer not to do this.

    Gas/electric single vessel question

Hi guys, I'm looking to upgrade my very simple gas fired biab setup by adding an electric element and a pump to the keggle for recirculation. My question is, can i fit these to the keggle but still use gas to help ramp up to mash and boil? Obviously I would need to take care to keep wires away...

    Chemical smell in Keezer

Hi guys, I used treated pine to build the collar for my keezer. There is a really strong smell from the chemicals used to treat the pine which is still hanging around months after it was assembled. Very noticeable when you lift the lid. Beer tastes fine, but I do have one tap for soda water and...

    Infected wheat beer... I think.

Hi guys, I think I have finally suffered my first infected batch. It was an all grain (biab) Weizen. If I had to guess, I would say it is an acetobacter infection based on the faint vinegar smell and taste and what I have read. There is also a fair bit of astringency and after a week in a corny...
