    crash chill

    Hi I crash chilled from 18c to 3c. At 18 the beer was clear, at 3deg c it's merky. Is this normal and will it clear again. cheers Kev

    1st allgrain questions

    Well, 2nd realy 1st didn't get to the fermenter.Anyway,I got a gravity reading before the boil of 1068,but a reading after the boil of 1035. Is this how it works or did i stuff up somewhere? PH of the mash was between 6 & 7. I used 1 table spoon of 5.2 buffer,didn't help.Is this how to adjust...

    steeping grains in grain bill

    Hi Quick question on my first all grain. If there are steeping grains in the grain bill do they need to be steeped separately, or can they just be added to the mash with the rest of the grain? Kev

    Strange clearing/settling

    Hi my latest brew after raising the ferm temp 2/3 deg at the end,then reduced temp to .5deg for a week. The strange part is it cleared with the top 50mm being only water,perfectly clear and tastless. Can those experienced brewers explain this. I brew in glass and this has not happened...

    Hi I have gone electric. Do other electric brewers use a PID to control their boil? If so how do you get a rolling boil? Mine keeps turning off and on at boiling point and i dont get a good strong boil. Advice welcom. Kev

    lag time

    Hi, happy newyear all Can a lag time be to short? I just pitched a 1lt starter (1035) of S 04 into 21Lt brew at 22c og 1044. 4hours latter it's going of its head. 1pkt of yeast. Kev

    mash time/temp

    Hi aquick question on my 1st ag. If I have a rest of 50 min at 65c does the 50min include the time taken to ramp up from mash in, or is it 50min from the time I hit 65c? Ramp time 15min. Kev ?

    yeast confusion

    Hi, I have been reading up on yeast starters and yeast farming. Why is it that when making a starter that the slurry on the bottom of the jar is what is pitched, yet when farming the liquid on top is what we want and scrap the slurry on the bottom? Kev

    Big head powder

    Hi Have some copper tun big head powder. Instructions say mix I teaspoon in .25 cup of water allow to stand for 24 hours and add to brew. But it doesn't say when. Do I add it to the boil, after the boil when I add the yeast or when ferm is complete just before bottle ing? Kev

    ferm time

    Hi New to this, this is my forth brew. The first 3 I used brewceller lager yeast at 12 to 15 c took 7 to 10 days to finish. This brew (Coopers lager + Coopers light liquid malt) fermented at 12c with 30/70 put down on the 29/12/13 is still bubbling at 2 bubbles per min. Is this normal? Kev

    Is my beer ruined

    Help! My Coopers lager which has been bottle conditioning for 3 weeks @ 15deg, has a distinct after taste of cloves. Is it a lost cause? This is my second coopers lager with brew cellar larger yeast. The first was good. What causes this flavor? Kev

    Lagering after bottleing

    Hi Read somewhere that it is better to bottle condition for 2 weeks then lager at 1,2 deg in the bottle. The reason was that the viability of the yeast suffers from spending extended time at near freezing temp. Has anyone tried this? ev
