Getting passion fruit out of Galaxy hops

I boiled hops in a smaller batch ~6L then poured into fermenter which contained the remainder of water cooled in my ferment fridge to give me a good pitching temp. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Interesting thoughts on dry hopping before primary fermentation. Certainly haven't heard that...

Getting passion fruit out of Galaxy hops

Bought them from www.aussiebrewmakers.com.au They smelled fresh to me but seem to have a lot more 'peach' than grapefruit.

Getting passion fruit out of Galaxy hops

    Hello all I recently brewed for the first time in 2 years. Used the following kit recipe (ended up with 25 L): * Morgans canadian light tin (1.7 kg) * Morgans master wheat LME (1.5 kg) * 10 g galaxy pellets @ 10 min * 15 g galaxy pellets @ 0 min * US05 yeast @ 17 deg C * 75 g galaxy pellets...

    Stone and Wood PACIFIC clone

Tigga, did you pull your boiled hops out at flame out? and how long did you leave dry hopped hops in the fermenter?

    Stone and Wood PACIFIC clone

I tried a similar recipe for this beer a few weeks ago. Didn't turn out too great. I did additions at 25, 10 and 5 minutes with no dry hopping. I left the hops in the fermenter for 3 weeks during fermentation and cold conditioning (as I normally do). Basically no passion fruit taste but it did...

Carapills fine particles make beer cloudy

Thats an idea. I thought I did when i added the hops but maybe I didn't boil long enough. So if I have no hot break forming from these grains, the proteins remain fine and dont sink to the bottom easily? How long do you guys normally boil the liquid to get hot break?

Carapills fine particles make beer cloudy

Boiling for about 5 mins and yes I cold crash at 0.5 deg C for about a week. After this time the beer clears but the sediment is not very compact and is easily disturbed clouding up the beer. Same occurs in the bottles after being in the fridge a week, beer is clear until the second pour or if...

Carapills fine particles make beer cloudy

Interesting. So it seems like its not the carapills. I am not sure what type it is - I got it from Marks Home Brew in Newcastle. Past 2 recipies have been: Morgans blue mountain lager kit 500g light dry malt extract 500g dextrose 250 g carapills steeped 30 mins around 65-70 deg c (i think from...

Carapills fine particles make beer cloudy

A question for those that have steeped carapills for their brews without using a fine mesh grain bag - do you find your fermented brew takes a long time (5 days) to clear during cold crash and then is easily disturbed (not compact)? My last 2 brews I have used carapils and only been able to...

help, my beer isn't very good.

This is slightly off topic, but pat do you know for sure which kits use mauri 514? I know coopers don't and can taste the difference. Theres lots of opinions as to what yeasts are used in kits like morgans and black rock but I haven't seen any definitive proof or comparisons with the Actual...

help, my beer isn't very good.

Without temp control I would stick with the kit yeast. However I am not a fan of coopers kit yeast. To me it adds a dirty home brew flavour. Try a different kit such as morgans or black rock. Their yeast produces a much cleaner flavour (it is different to coopers). As recommended before try...

    Beer color guidelines

Could someone please point me to a reference that gives typical EBC guidelines for general beer styles including lager, pale ale, golden ale, amber ale and dark ale (or stout)? Otherwise please post the above typical values based on your experience.

New method for bulk priming in primary fermenter

Yeah all bottles have an even amount of pressure (from squeezing) and as mentioned before, my first 4 bottles have had perfect carbonation. I know that when you cool the beer, the solubility of the sugar in the water will reduce, however, I believe it does not reach saturation (the point where...

New method for bulk priming in primary fermenter

For those who are like me and only use one container for the whole fermentation, conditioning and bottling process; I have just tried a new (may not be new but I have not seen it used before) method for bulk priming in the fermenter that ensures even carbonation with clear beer. The biggest...

Newb Question Regarding 'Green Apple' Taste/Smell

Unfortunately that yeast produces lots of esters up around 24 deg C. Next time if you buy off the shelf yeast, get the pink one (US05). But in the mean time it is probably better to use the kit yeast as they are more forgiving for higher temperatures. I don't particularly like the Coopers kit...

Leaky pin lock gas connect - HELP!

From the photo, it certainly looks like it is leaking from the thread. In which case, is there any damage to the male or female threads? If not, make sure you are wrapping the thread seal tape the correct direction so that it does not unwrap when you screw it in. You should be able to get a...

Boil volume - does it affect hop flavour and aroma

It seems to be well documented that the utilisation of hops for creating bitterness is affected by the boil volume (bigger is better). But what about flavour and aroma? If I am only doing less than 20 minute hop additions and am not concerned about getting much bitterness out of the hops, does...

    2nd Brew (2nd time around!)

I know the taste you are talking about and my theory is, the yeast has a lot to do with it. I have a friend that did a side by side comparison with exactly the same ingredients and brew conditions (for coopers Australian pale ale) - one with coopers ale yeast and one with US-05. The US-05 brew...

Beer kit yeast - more resistant to high temperatures

I know several people that only brew kits using the kit yeast and they don't pay any attention to temperature control (even up to 27-30 deg C). Their beers seem to turn out ok with no significant off flavours. This has certainly been the case in the coopers kits I have brewed. However, when I...

I agree. I live in Port Stephens North of Newcastle. Was considering taking one down to the local brew shop.
