    2 x 20L brew BOTH stopped at 1.020?!

Hi, I was just reading new_guy's post about his stout stopping at 1.020. This is even more peculiar as both of my beers started at 1.040 and have both stopped at exactly 1.020?! They both had: 1 x Coopers Aus Pale Ale can 1 x Brew Enhancer #1 1 x Kit yeast Then 1 had: 200g medium crystal...

Rubber grommet in wort ... whoops?

Pretty much as simple as that. I put together a stout in a 20L clear chemical drum (used to have non scented cleaning chems), one of the square-ish ones. The hole I'd drilled was about 0.5mm too open making the grommet just a little bit loose, but not enough for air contamination to be an issue...

Effed Up Black Stuff In Cider After 2 Weeks

Hello, I've been brewing a ridiculous amount of cider lately (like, a lot). One of the batches was plain apple, nothing fancy, but I mixed up 500ml of boiling water with 3 teaspoons full of vanilla paste and divided it up evenly in all of the bottles. So there was only 2 bottles (2L) of this...

Coles 2l Sparkling Water - Sanitize Or Not?

Hi, I desperately needed some bottles last night and bought 10 2L Coles sparking water bottles. I figured if they've only had water inside they should be pretty much sterile and bottled some cider into them without using sanitizer first. Anyone reckon this is a bad idea? Or should it be...

    High-ish Abv With Kits (6-7%?)

Hi again, As mentioned at the end of my last topic, I had a search around these forums and Google for ideas on how to make higher abv beers / ciders. Most of the answers I found were for 10% or higher beers, cost well over $100 in ingredients for one batch and took months to complete. I'm just...

    I Really Don't Get Gravity

Good morning, I've been doing weekly batches (mostly of cider lately as everyone seems to love it and it's super easy). The last beer I did a couple of weeks back had an original gravity of 1.037 and ending of 1.010. Most calculators estimate that to only be about 3.6% (.5% after priming...

    Beer Sg 1.114 ?!

Hi everyone, I'm new here as I'm sure you can tell by my posts count (which should be 1 once I've posted this). First of all, this forum is freaking awesome and I'm so glad I'm found it, so thanks to Dane for accepting my registration. So I bought a kit a couple of years ago and made 2 batches...
