    Small Batch Brewing

I'll put my hand up and say I've regressed from full size batches, to 10L batches, and now to 5L batches. It knocks time off cleaning, bottling and other stuff, doesn't take up heaps of room, and by making two sixers of each beer, I create more variety in my brews. I'm not a huge drinker, so I'm...

    Whats In The Glass

A classic "I've got heaps of hops left" APA. Pretty basic recipe, just 5% crystal and some Vienna I believe (brewed it a while back and have no notes nearby). Threw in some Nelson, Amarillo, Citra, Cascade and Galaxy late and hoped for the best. Dry hopped with Cascade and Citra. It was a VERY...

Small batch (10L) All grain BIAB Where to start?

jyo's simple saaz blonde is a great way to start out I reckon. It was one of my experimental brews that affirmed my choice to start BIAB. 2kg Pils 200gms wheat 50gms Munich 1 60gms Caramalt Mash low and slow for 90 minutes, say 63-64 degrees. 20gms Saaz @ 60mins 5 gms Saaz @ 10-15 mins Use...

10 minute IPAs are good for school night brewing

Could it be then, that 60 minute boils (for non Pilsner malts) are measured by the fact that most beers 'require' a bittering addition around 60 minutes? Highly interested to know if I could get away with a 30 minute boil with just the one or two additions if I am rushed for time (happy to wait...

Tips for keeping your fermenters cool over summer

How much of these methods actually change the wort temperature? I did this last summer and saw my little stick on thermometer hover around 18, but I'm fairly certain that's because the damp towel with a fan pointed at it was cooling the thermometer! :P Does it actually cool the wort inside?

    Kegging Setups

From brewer to brewer it seems we have a line of useful little hand-me-downs... My first kegging setup (still with bits and bobs to buy), courtesy of GrumpyPaul!

    National Homebrew

Ordered 400gms of hops on Thursday with extremely competitive postage. Despite the AA% not being on the website, it was on the packets which i perfect, and then I even found a surprise of BRY-97 with a handwritten note wishing me luck brewing the style I'm looking for - so they actively noticed...

How Much Beer Do You Drink?

Probably in the minority, but if I don't go out on the weekend, then maybe a beer every two or three nights... hence why I'm doing 10L batches, they last long enough for me! (Probably due to P Plates...)

    VICBREW 2013

Ahh, shattered, was really keen to submit and get some feedback on my latest creation! (When it is carbed and ready, but it is promising...) Shame about the 500ml minimum! Always next year ;) More for me now I guess! :beerbang:

    First American IPA - tips?

That or scrap the 60 minute and flameout additions and just chuck my 10g Galaxy, 20g Amarillo and 40g of Citra in at 10 minutes? That still leaves 1g/L of Citra for the dry hop, whilst having 54IBU from the late additions... thoughts?

    First American IPA - tips?

Ended up getting the ratio to 1.01, so I'm happy with that. Ended up getting some Galaxy for my 60 minute addition, that'll free up the Citra for later additions or dry hopping. Thanks all for the suggestions, about to get stuck in so I'll keep you all updated!

    First American IPA - tips?

Howdy brewers, Bottling a blonde ale tomorrow, then going to double header the day with my first IPA - of the American variety. I've been reading bits and pieces so I have done my research, and I finally settled on this recipe. Just wondering for those new to brewing IPAs, what should we be...

Realistically, what can I expect with temp fluctuations?

Hey all, I don't have temperature control for my brews at the moment, but as the room I use to brew holds a relatively constant temperature, I'm still making great tasting beers. My question is, how much of a difference to taste or anything else will temperature fluctuations between 15-18...
