    Cube Hopping

So, I'm a bit confused. What's the difference between 0 min hop addition, dry hopping and cube hopping? Naively thought they were kind of one in the same? Sent from my iPad using Aussie Home Brewer

Who has no chilled a Mash?

Typing this having just finished my 'brew night'. Have a 3,6 and 9 year old and only just got back into brewing about 18 months ago. I always have a little chuckle as people mention 'brew days' - those of us with little uns are generally brewers of the night. I brew on a Friday night and set...

Basics Of Making And Using A Yeast Starter

Put a starter down on Friday morning with the intention of pitching it tonight (Sunday) after brewing on sat night. Saturday night didn't happen so now I won't get another stab at it until next Friday night. What should I do with the starter. Just leave it out? Stick it in the fridge? If I...

    Have I stuffed the starter?

Krausen this morning.........so there's action.....but is it enough.....maybe step it up with another 50g of LDME and 500ml?

    Have I stuffed the starter?

Had my first go at splitting a Wyeast tonight and I think I made a simple but significant boo boo. Got my 500ml/50g starter ready and my sterile specimen jars. Poured 25ml into the starter and then proceeded to split rest into vials......hold on....the liquid is sludgier now than the yeast...

    Skin formed on cider......?

The fact that after drinking about 20ml I feel sick seems a fair indicator it's beyond vinegar or salad dressing!

    Skin formed on cider......?

Haven't taken a hydro in a couple of weeks but was pretty low then so I'd say it's fermented out by now. And yes to oxygen - not long period....but exposure is exposure. Maybe should take a sample.....

    Skin formed on cider......?

Hi all Got 10l of cider in the fermenter - been there for four weeks. Just checked it tonight for the first time in a week or so and noticed a whitish skin has formed over the top. Little jiggle of the fermenter sees the skin split. panic?

    Starting Wyeast

Hence my wondering over smacking. Seems to be a divisive topic. Popular opinion from posts I've read from 09-11 seems to be pro smack and then over the last couple of years, no-smack seems to have come into play and gained popularity. Smacked if I know!

    Starting Wyeast

To smack....or not to smack...that is the question ......and one per missable to ask on this forum...but not on a parenting forum.

    Starting Wyeast

Would you spilt a smack pack into four if you are doing 17l stovetop batches? 3 specimen jars with in the fridge and then 1 into a 500ml 50g LDME starter for the upcoming brew.....? Or split into 5?

First go at splitting a smack pack....info overload=confusion

Sooooooo......are you saying its a waste of time for me to split the yeast and to do so ill just end up with yeast that will ferment a cooled wort but won't be true to its strain and therefore unpredictable in its influence on the final taste flavour etc? Doesn't this go against why people seem...

First go at splitting a smack pack....info overload=confusion

Purchased a wyeast 1272 American II and thought I'd have a go at splitting the pack to get better bang for buck. Heaps of good info on the forum but this can some time be disadvantageous - so many subtle variants on how to do it and I end up a confused blithering mess in thee corner....I'm a...

Can i do every thing in my big w pot?

I do 17l batches in my Big W pot and have scratched my head over whirlpooling with the Big W pot method. I have whirlpooled before but as I no chill by glad wrapping the top of the pot and leaving over night, the trub settles to the bottom and then I tip into the fermenter the pot has not tap...

Am I being too impatient (thirsty)

Used online priming calc. They've been in a big tub in my shed. I've only got one temp controlled fridge and that's being used to ferment another brew and cider at the moment. So temp would have been inconsistent.

Am I being too impatient (thirsty)

Had my latest batch of DSGA carbing in bottled for two weeks now and thought I'd crack a couple open (for the sake of science!). Very happy with the taste and whilst carbonation has occurred - not as much as I'd thought and little (no!) head. Is it just a matter of time or have I made a boo boo...
