Castle Hill and NSW State Homebrewing Competition 2014

We had one or two commercial brewers in there as well (shoutout to Sam @ King St), not sure if they had BJCP.

New Sydney Inner West brew shop opening

Sam, I really really really hope you are able to make this venture work. Those of us that have been around a while have seen a few LHBS come and go in Inner Sydney, one of which was located in Llewellyn St. not 500m around the corner from where you are now. The common thread from those...

    Isb Meeting Notification

As an original ISBer, and one who's still in Inner Sydney (while the rest of the limey lot have up and buggered off to far flung destinations), it's great you've picked this up bluenose, well done. Judging by the interest so far seems like the volume of inner sydney brewing types has picked up...

    Isb Big Belgian Brew Day

Well I am alive albeit only just so I though I would pop my head out of the bag of training footies for a sec and say g'day. My apologies Phil, I think you rang me during the week I had in Mildura and one or two times after that. Will try and catch up soon. Bout the first time I've been on here...

Nsw Special Case Swap Tasting Thread

Just drinking this now, hard to add anymore than this but the dry finish really complements the pleasantly high bitterness. Love beers like this, pours almost like honey but finish quite dry. Also poured a big rocky fluffy head that really hang around. Nicely done.

Nsw Special Case Swap Tasting Thread

Thanks Andrew, I'm reasonably happy with it as a first attempt. Missed the carb a bit, probably needed a bit of fresh yeast in the bottle. And although I know many Belgians have a high ferment temp I think the combo of that and this yeast has pushed the yeasty phenols out a bit too hard. Maybe a...

    Nsw Special Case Swap

Bloody Hell, 11am start, and what was that 11pm finish. I'm pretty sure I forgot to eat anything after 6pm, whoever was left and whatever happened was a bit hazy after that!!!! Paid for it with an 8am start 5pm finish at football with the kids yesterday. Thanks for all for coming and for the...

    Newtown Best Pub?

Having lived in Newtown about 15 odd years ago (and I'm not far away even now), I'd say the Sando has managed to maintain some semblence of that Newtown vibe that was there then any many years prior. Can't believe what's happened to the Bank, sheeeeees. Good call on the Barley Geoffi, loved the...

    Nsw Special Case Swap

Josh, we made the call at midday a bit earlier in the thread, I suspect 5pm is a bit late for us to get the swap done, not sure if all are hanging around till then. I'll PM you.

    Nsw Special Case Swap

Don't forget to bring your favourite barbecue charing ingredient or any other contribution. I'll have some stuff there plus a few salads and anything else I can get time to put together. Cheers, BTW got three beers on tap atm. A NZ Pils which I'm a bit disappointed with, a smoked Schwarz which...

    Malteurop Malting Plant Tour

So I'm assuming the drying and kilning is done on those bins with the mixers, via steamheating. Is that right, a bit confused. Can you clarify that one Quark.

    Rowlandsn & Lewis Brewing Ballarat

I'll check this book (unless someone beats me to it first) when I get home tonight FJ http://www.amazon.com/Breweries-Australia-...1266&sr=8-1 If it's not in there it didn't exist. Hmmmmm, reminds me need to check something on the Pyrmont Brewery for crozzy as well.

    Second Brew

A few posts here mention to rinse after sanitising I'm pretty sure Morgans is a NO RINSE sanitiser. I would suggest that the process of rinsing may (although probability is small) introduce potential contaminants if you are doing this just prior to filling with your brew. Process should be to...

    Plate Chiller With Pellet Hops

Very interesting, I rigged up my filter with silicon tubing in anticipation of doing something like this (I think I saw Doc with a similar setup sometime back) and have never got around to it (this filter get used during kegging/bottling still). Might just give it a go at some stage.

    Whirlpooling

I don't get a cone but the trub is pulled off the edge of the kettle enough to ensure I get (mostly) clear wort through the copper pickup which is hard up against the edge of the kettle. Generally works OK, kettle finings help it stay settled as well.
