Keg king mill letting uncracked grains bypass

Used my new keg king mill fir the first time last night. I have noticed that even with the gap closed right down it is still letting uncracked grains bypass through. On closer inspection there are large gaps on either side of the mill rollers. This is obviously where the grains are coming...

    IBC Apocalypso Inspired IPA

This is my first attempt at an IPA. My current favourite is the Illawarra Brewing Company's Apocalypso IPA, which was the inspiration for my IPA (see attachment) Its a mixture of Mosaic, El Dorado and Calypso hops. I'm after a full bodied IPA that where the malt and the hops are well...

I've read that some people boil their water prior to mashing to remove elements such as chlorine. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Does It Matter If It Takes Along Time To Reach Boil

Was brewing an APA the other night. Due to the cold wind, it took about 90 mins to reach the boil (70L batch). It got to 90C within about 45 min, but took forever to finally reach the boil. Currently I use a 4 ring gas burner, but was thinking about adding an over the side electric element to...

Astringency In Beer - How To Determine Mash Ph

I have recently brewed my first attempt at an amber ale, and first tastings indicate that the beer is very astringent (tea like dry flavour). Mash temps were exactly as per beersmith aim (about 68C). Mash time was 1hr, then 15 min batch sparge. I have read from Palmers "How to Brew" that the 2...

    Access To Unmalted Barley Grains

I have a farmer mate who grows "Hindmarsh" barley on his property. Most of the time it is of high enough quality that is sold as malt (rather than feed). He also has access to "schooner" barley from other properties. My question is: a) Can you use this raw barley to make beer (ie without going...

    Home Grown Hops

I'm new to homebrewing and was keen to attempt to grow some home grown hops. Does anybody have any information about: a) Where you can buy these plants from? b) Is there a certain time of year to plant these (I'm based in the Wollongong area). Cheers
