Free - All my home brewing gear - Doreen, Victoria.

Hi everyone, I've had a big clean out and I've decided to get rid of all my homebrewing equipment which I haven't used in years. I'd like to get rid of it all in one hit if possible so I'd prefer someone take the lot, or at least the bigger items. Pickup only, I'll even help you load it up...

    Wtb: Non-operational Large Chest Freezer

I have a Freezer you can have for nothing if you'd like. It's about 100cm x 55cm and about 50 cm deep. I used it for keeping bottles at a certain temperature. The only problem is that I'm pretty sure it works. I'm moving house soon and I don't want to take it with me. If you can come and...

High Gravity At The End Of Primary Fermentation

Well there's been a little issue with this brew. Just to recap. The beer was built with the following ingredients: 2500g Light Malt Extract 125g Crystal Malt 200g Malto Dextrin Powder 30g Willamette Hops 20g Goldings Hops 1/2 Tablet Irish Moss 1 Packet of Safale Yeast 20 litres of water I...

High Gravity At The End Of Primary Fermentation

Thanks for your suggestions guys. It's a 20 litre batch. I've only actually done one reading, I plan to do another one in a week. The hydrometer measures 1000 in lukewarm tap water. LME was dry and it was a 15 litre boil bought back up to 20 litres. It was in primary for seven days.

    Boiling Bottles

Has anyone tried boiling bottles on a stove as a method for removing lables? I did a quick search but couldn't seem to find anything. Does this sound like a good idea or would it weaken the glass?

    Fermenter Confessional

So I've never used pink stain before. Where does one buy it? The supermarket?

    Fermenter Confessional

I have a confession to make. The last time I brewed I forgot to clean out my secondary fermenter. I'm not too worried about it as I can see three others from where I'm sitting, inherited from friends who gave up on the hobby. So when I got back to it the word pungent doesn't sufficiently...

Looking For Feedback On My Method

Thanks again guys, I did two days at 20 degrees and then transferred to the secondary with a bit of finings. The Hoegaarden is a bit dark but it tastes enough like the real thing to call a success. So now my primary concern is to make sure that I don't leave the beer in the secondary for too...

Looking For Feedback On My Method

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm on the right track. I'm sitting at eight days from primary fermentation and I think I'm ready to go for a diacetyl rest. I did a gravity test and it was at around 1018 but there was a LOT of hop matter from the pellets in the sample. Airlock activity...

    Saflager Yeast Starter

Gah, I got confused between a starter and rehydration. So it sat in 26 degree water for 5-6 hours, I hope it's ok. I took this photo of the fermenter 24 hours after patching so I guess it's working. I have another packet of saflager does anyone think I should pitch it or wait to see what...

    Saflager Yeast Starter

I'm brewing a Pilsner today and I've put my saflager yeast in a sanitized container with airlock along with boiled water at 24 degrees. The problem is she won't start, no airlock activity no bubbles, no head. I've tried singing to it, putting it in a warm place, putting a little malt extract...

    Leaving Bottles In Sanitizing Solution?

Thanks, I only ask because I took the top off the other day and got a nose full of something that gave me a burning sensation, I'll assume it was the SM doing it's job based on what you've told me about the stuff and go the plastic crate route when I get around to buying one.

    Leaving Bottles In Sanitizing Solution?

I moved to kegging a while ago but every now and then I like to put a brew in the bottles so that I can hand them out. The thing that really annoys me is washing them and delabelling them. What I'd like to know is ... is there any harm in leaving the clean bottles in a plastic garbage bin...
