    Recirc Mash Dramas

So an update. Done about another 8 brews on it. Further things I have tried that didn't make any difference: Really slow recirculation Lots of rice hulls Changed to a braided hose with multiple configurations Used solid connections (no hose) Using a grant and gravity feeding Using 3.5lt per kg...

    Recirc Mash Dramas

Strike volume is 2.7lt/kg. Mash bills have been all barley and Crystal and some dark malts. No oats or wheat. Smallest was 5kg and largest was 7.5kg. Beerbelly don't change their crush for biab or 3v, it's fixed at whatever gap. Amanda sold me a lot of the gear and false bottom at the same...

    Recirc Mash Dramas

Yer it could be that at the start I'm initially opening the valve up too quickly. I'll have to try pruning the pump before mash in and open slowly to begin with.

    Recirc Mash Dramas

I will replace the hose out of sheer hope that it fixes the problem :). What I am interested in was why would a collapsed hose cause compaction as the vacuum under the grain bed would effectively stop when the hose collapses? Fil

    Recirc Mash Dramas

I only stir once it gets compacted and there's no flow, but shortly afterwards it compacts again.

    Recirc Mash Dramas

I do start recirc straight after mashing in and dont let it settle..i didnt know you need to. Also mash temp is 66deg and i mash in at that temp (72deg strike water). Ive tried stirring it back up again multiple times but the bed must just compact and I get channeling down the sides and hence...

    Recirc Mash Dramas

Um I try to start it slow but to get the pump primed and running i open it up but only for 15-20sec then back it right down. Also, the grain gets a greyish film/slime over the top once I can see after sparging.

    Recirc Mash Dramas

No idea. The flow rates under gravity seem fine as far as I can tell.

    Recirc Mash Dramas

Crush is standard beerbelly crush that they use for all their sales so I assume its suited to 3v as well as biab.

    Recirc Mash Dramas

Ive also got a 300mm FB that takes up the full diameter of the tun and that made no difference. I dont have a problem with flow as such, more the compaction of the grain bed, when that occurs the grain bed pulls away from the side of the tun and the wort bypasses the grain bed. Cheers Fil

    Recirc Mash Dramas

After many years of BIAB Ive moved to a 3V setup. Spent the last couple of weeks building it and got it up and running yesterday and have done 3 brews on it, all with the same issue. Basically, I have a HERMS setup and when I recirc (which I do from the start of the mash) the wort never runs...

    FS: 2 Door Commercial Fridge/Freezer - Adelaide

Cheers Ayebee! The older William units were built in australia and built well...unlike the current batch built in indo/viet/china unfortunately. Wally its just a single phase unit. Its only a 1/2hp compressor that draws about 250w (1A). It has 960w of cooling capacity at -10deg..compared to a...

    FS: 2 Door Commercial Fridge/Freezer - Adelaide

Hi, I've got a Williams 2dr Fridge for sale. I'm a fridgie by trade and have cleaned, pressure tested and rebuilt this fridge to better than original specs. Carel Low Temp digital controller also installed. This fridge will pull down to -22deg no worries. Plenty of room inside and can easily...

    TIG Welding 1/2" sockets

Hi Just wondering if anyone knows the amps required to weld a 1/2" socket to a stainless vessel? Trying to size up a TIG welder. Oh and if anyone has any good experience with a particular welder let me know :) Fil
