Great work Chris 6. Cleaning Up Clean up straight away. Clean your mash tun whilst the wort is boiling. Dismantle it entirely and dry throroughly. I have seen pictures of rusty bottom perforated plates where the nut traps water against it. Best to dismantle. The Grainfather cleaner...

Dedicated Grainfather Guide, Problems and Solutions Thread

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm not alone with this one, hitting target gravity no problems so I will just add more sparge water to hit the 28ltr mark. I'm am plugging my recipe into the grainfather calculator and using the app, which aims for a 28ltr pre boil. The only other thing is that the...

Dedicated Grainfather Guide, Problems and Solutions Thread

Hi all. Ive just finished my 3rd brew on the grainfather and I'm finding that I'm not hitting the 28ltr pre boil volumes. I seem to be up to 2ltrs short. Today's brew was only 26.5lts pre boil. My sparges are only taking about 10 minutes and I let the grain drain while the kettle is coming up...

    Problems using Kegerator for fermenting

Great setup Bribie G. Two side by side looks great too. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that it has to be another fridge, might see what Ross has in stock. cheers

    Problems using Kegerator for fermenting

Hi guys Just wanted to get some feedback on my process and possible suggestions from those who may also be using their kegerator for fermenting. Basically this is my process, I will pose some questions as well: 1) I usually have only one or two kegs on tap at any one time. 2) to get another...

Thanks mate, will give that a try and see what happens. I did get the T type filter just must have been unlucky to bump it off. Can't wait to do another brew, no doubt things will get better with practice. Cheers Wadey

Hi folks. Finally got the grainfather and did a maiden brew on Saturday. So just thought I would post my experience and get some feedback. I decided to do a Aussie Lager and everything was going great guns, sparge only took about 10 minutes so that wasn't bad from what I've read. Then I...

    Consistently low alcohol content?

Might be a long shot, but I'm wondering what your OG readings are also and what temp is the wort when taking the reading? This could throw your calcs out as well.

    Cleaning and Storing Filter Cartridges

I let mine soak in 4 teaspoons of napisan for two days and it works a treat, comes up like brand new, then I rinse and soak in water for a day, let it dry and stick it up on a kitchen shelve. When ready to use again I run starsan through it. No problems so far. cheers Wadey

    Fermenting temperature

Hi Goodbeer, welcome to this great hobby mate. I'm no expert but you really want to be fermenting US05 at the low end of whats recommended ie about 18c. At 25c you are going to get some potential off flavours and not the best results but hey you gotta start somwhere right. Not sure about...

Different Brews, Same Yeast (US05) All very similar

From my understanding the yeast type can have a large impact on the beer flavour. Assuming you have temp control in place I would do the same recipe but try a different yeast type, like Wyeast and experiment. I am also about to do a LCPA with US05 so I might try the same exercise and see how...

Next step up options from BIAB

Hey folks. Didn't get to do my LCPA Saturday, too busy on flood watch at home in Brisbane. Plan to do it this weekend and will report back on how my mash efficiency went by using a few new techniques. I certainly have obtained some great insights and peoples thoughts from my OP. I have to...

Stux, that's a great description mate, I may have been a bit harsh on myself on efficiency calc. You never stop learning things in all grain brewing. cheers

Next step up options from BIAB

Going to do another BIAB this Saturday and try a few of the suggestions, like using a paint stirrer for one. I will report back on if I was able to improve efficiency. Doing a LCPA clone. I reckon one way or another I will probably end up going down the Grainfather path, it looks like a great...
