    Hops growing - wicking beds

Greetings, who has tried wicking beds and how did they work out? What did you do/use? I know they're not ideal for deep-rooted perrenials, but I've seen a couple of posts here reporting good results. I'm tempted to give them a crack because the IBC beds will fit perfectly in the space I have...

    Wedding Beers

yep, the ones I photographed were the prototypes, the missus has "approved" the design with a few revisions (apparently "a shitload" of hops wasn't appropriate for a wedding label, who would have known...)

    Wedding Beers

dent - I did that a couple of years ago for a house warming - 5 kegs gone in as many hours. We've booked a venue at a winery and the grog was part of the package, alas, it will be commercial beer (it's Coopers Pale Ale & James Boags Premium so not all that bad).

    Wedding Beers

Well, I'm getting married in January, and I decided to brew some beer to give to our guests as a small leaving gift. It was a good exercise as it motivated me to get back into brewing, and I think it's a nice personal touch. I settled on 4 beers, the first 3 are old favourites, the Marzen is an...

    Consistently high FG

In AG brewing you can control the ferment-ability of the wort by varying the mash temperature. In extract/kit brewing you don't have that ability, it's already been mashed - to whatever the manufacturers specifications were. The kit makers know that most people will go from the kit...

    Dark Strong Belgian Ale

With belgians, alcohol tolerance and temperature are very important because you're often dealing with high gravity worts. You have a very fermentable wort - you should get 90%+ attenuation with 30% sugar and a very fermentable mash profile. My guess is it's alcohol tolerance. T-58 is 11.5% --...

    Lagering - duration

I decided to brew a Marzen as one of the beers I'm going to give to guests at our wedding as a present, the wedding is in 7 and a half weeks and I want to make sure the beer is as optimal as I can make it. I made a bit of a late start, without thinking about the extra lagering / conditioning...

Group buy at Plasdene (Preston, VIC) - bottles, fermenters, cubes etc

I'm in for some 500ml bottles, I'll also be keen on some 330ml's while I'm at it. I am right around the corner in Heidelberg Heights, and can work from home on Wed if you guys are meeting up there. Do we need to order in advance or just rock up and tell them what you want?

    recipe critique - marzen/oktoberfest

HI all, I'm having a crack at brewing an Oktoberfest, as it's a style I enjoy but have never gotten around to brewing, I've been looking at other people's recipes online, there don't seem to be too many rules and a fairly broad degree of differentiation between recipes. A lot of crystal malt...

    Pizza

I've been having really good results with an electric pizza maker - google "just pizza oven" I used an oven thermometer to test the temperature, and it was over 350C (the max temp that my thermometer goes up to). It produces nice, crispy pizzas in about 5 minutes, and probably the next best...

2 batches - same beer combining batches

HI guys, Quick q. I'm going to be brewing 2 AG batches of the same beer 3 days apart. Rather than make a second starter and treating the second batch as a stand alone brew, I was wondering if there would be any issue with adding the second batch to the first one that has already started...
