First BIAB brew - Will this SMASH be good?

Let me know what you think of the hops. I think your recipe looks fine. As you said there is only one way to find out, and you don't break any boundaries by copying what everyone else is saying. I used Brooklyn in my last brew teamed up with Citra. I think the Brooklyn is a far more modest...

Gage Roads Little Dove - "New World" Pale Ale?

I dare say I'm going to commit a fair bit of time getting close.

Gage Roads Little Dove - "New World" Pale Ale?

Thanks for the info guys. I'll definitely take it into consideration for the next attempt. I put this down yesterday. I was told there is no more galaxy left? So subbed for Citra. Also did a small first wort hop addition of Brooklyn. Made plenty of mistakes with my mash. Efficiency went...

Gage Roads Little Dove - "New World" Pale Ale?

Yeah I had some Vienna in my original recipe... I'd agree that the beer is malty sweet, but it isn't heavy imho, which kind of put me off trying to overdo the grain bill with speciality malts. I could be convinced though as in general I would make a more well balanced grain bill.

    Itching to get back in...

Thats a big demand! haha. Thanks for the idea. I've done a bit of searching, and gave myself a slight update on current hop varities and their uses. Me and my brother really enjoy the Gage Roads Little Dove 'New World Pale Ale', so might have a crack at replicating it. Research points towards...

    Itching to get back in...

Hi Homebrewers, It's been a while since my last post (many years), and also my last brew. Life got in the way. Anyway, I've had a recent urge to get the brew kit back out and get a boil going. I'm really loving current IPA's and XPA's (are they even a real style?), and would love to design...

    Beer Presentation - What Styles/examples

I think it's worth chucking in a few American style lagers to allow your guests to see the difference between a beer made with a large amount of adjuncts and a beer made with all malt (the pilseners). The difference is very noticeable when they are tasted one after the other. Always good to...

    Kolsch

I think Kolsch is all about getting malt character, without adding too many specialty malts which attribute 'maltiness'. A big part of it is a mash of low temperature (62-65) for a lengthy time (90 mins), and you should aim to achieve high attenuation (80%+). A longer boil (90 mins) will help...

    Suggestions

Hey Seano, Your kit beers can be improved or well made in a variety of ways. A good brand name yeast is a start. Depending on the type of beer you want to make! With Thomas Coopers draught, you could buy some light liquid malt extract (1.5kgs) or a 1kg bag of light dry malt extract, do a boil...

What Do You Do With Your Used Grains After Mashing?

I use some to feed the worm farm (they get plenty of scraps anyway), dig it into the veggie patch, or use it in breads I make. Put some in a bowl, add some milk and you have breakfast.

    Whats In A Name? Everything

Market research Jumbawumba! Go to your local bottlo (one with a decent variety of craft brews) and have a look at labels and names of mainstream beers, craft beers, specialty beers, imports. Note the ones you like. What did you like about them? How did the label/name make you feel? Did the...
