    Gs: Cheap Hops

Hi, I'm moving house and have to give up brewing for a year so I'm selling off some hops. I have roughly 30x40g bags of assorted saaz and galaxy. I think i probably have 60-70% galaxy. they are 2010 hops I think. I'm looking for someone to take them off my hands as quickly as possible. I'm...

    Brewshed Build.

I count 9370 watts total, so at 240v(this is before transforming to 400v) you need 40amps. I think you might need phase 3 power to run this. Definitely won't work off a 15amp supply. I'm no expert though.

    Wtb: Normal Fridge/freezer

Hi, my fridge has just died so I'm on the lookout for a second hand one and thought I'd ask around here before getting ripped off by a fridge salesman :D Just after a normal sized fridge freezer combo, not too fussy about size as long as it works and isn't likely to die after 6 months (I've...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Thanks to everyone that helped me with my problems. I did another brew yesterday and discovered that when I squeezed the metal braid in my mash tun that I use as the grain filter, it started bubbling so air was obviously getting trapped in there. So I guess the braid closes off too much and the...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Thanks for the reply. I was talking about a temp gauge in the mash tun which does sit in the opposite corner to where the return is. So if the temp out of the hex is say 70 I can say that my mash was at 70? Even though the temperature throughout the mash tun was 65. How do I run a loose mash...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

OK ill provide some more info. The heat exchanger is an 8l pot with 2400watt element. Not sure how much you copper I got in there but my ramp time was a bit less than 2 degrees a minute. The temp controller is dei106h and the pump isn't a march but it has the same specs as a 809 march pump but...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

I had my first brew with my herms yesterday. Some things went well and some things didn't. I started off by getting my mash water up to 50 degrees for a protein rest which went well. There ended up being a wide degree difference between the pid and mash tun so I set my pid a bit higher. I then...

Trenton Aluminium Stockpot, Anyone Used One

I have a 50l Trenton and it is perfect for 23l brews. If you wanted to do double batches then get 100l pot. I have lifted the pit to do transfers but I bought a pump after about 3 brews with it. For cleaning I just use water and dish cloth, no detergent. I'd definitely recommend the pot though.

    Nice Brew

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do like the sweetness of this beer for the given grain bill which is why I went with a high temp. (I actually only wanted 68 but I overshot the mark and decided to just go with it) It was 23 litres so the efficiency isn't a major problem, I just hope to get a...

    Nice Brew

I brewed a nice ale a couple of months ago and just got to finally taste it and it was awsome. Reminds me of a double IPA but without the alcohol hit. The recipe was: 4kg Joe white traditional ale 0.8kg vienna malt 0.2kg flaked barley 0.1 amber malt 0.1 car-pils 30gm centennial 60min 20gm...

Hey guys. How did you cut the hole for the element in your hex? I've got a hole drilled of about half an inch but I'm not sure how to get it out to over an inch without paying 50+ for a large bit (which I don't know you can even get). Thanks.

    Pumping Problems

Hi everyone. I've done a few brews with my pump which was awesome and I'm building my hex at the moment. I'm just wondering how everyone deals with the problem of leftover wort in the lines/piping? I know your not supposed to run the pump dry and even if I did there wouldn't be enough pressure...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Just thought I'd share my recent experience of trying to extract a kettle element... I bought a $16 kettle from target of the brand 'Cheif'. It had a 2200 watt element and quite honestly was a really poor/unsafe design (good thing I'm only using the element and not the kettle). In order to get...

    Hop Boil Over

I haven't calculated my evaporation rate yet. I still don't have a great means for measuring my volumes in the kettle... at the moment I'm using a mash paddle and my volume levels for sparge water etc correspond to different letters in the brand name... lol. I really should put markings on it...

    Hop Boil Over

Ok, thanks for the advice guys. I won't be able to brew until after new years so I will try it out then. (Along with the new brew toys I get for christmas :D )

    Hop Boil Over

ahh thanks for that. I think even if i don't get a boil over the rolling boil will keep shunting the hops to the sides at the top. Is that normal?

    Hop Boil Over

Hi everyone. For my first 3 all grains I got a small boil over initially and then it would be fine for the 60 minutes. I used a hop sock wich worked fine but we got inconsistencies between bottles in hop bitterness and flavour which to me implies that the wort inside the hop sock wasn't...

    Omg

Could there be some diacetyl? Yeast could have stopped a bit early or maybe the wort wasn't aerated?

1st Go At Ag 20l Stove Top Brew

Its definitely not up shit creek. Your beer will just be light. It will still taste great but I think you will have troubles getting high alc volumes with your current equipment. Your mash temp is going to be optimally between 64 and 68 depending on the style. You also should try and find a way...
