    Bag Got Heavier!

Just checked mine out.....doesn't look to be cad. plated, just cheap nickle plate. His descriptions for his goods aren't super accurate! I also use snap hooks between the metal loops and bag.

    Bag Got Heavier!

I agree with Bribie G, the tying up the bag works well. If you need a block and tackle try the link below, these do the job great with little effort. This bloke is the only one that I could source these in Aus. (he's put his price up recently). Plenty in the States but shipping was...

BIG thanks to all. This is EXACTLY what I needed to know in yesterdays post. Great pics. Tavas, (a thousand words in a pic.-many thanks) I have the same Birko Is the silicon hose easy to remove from the barb as I will be using the same hose for racking? (12.5mmI.D.) Cheers.

    Replacing Tap On Urn

Thanks for the reply Tavas. Is there any problems using brass at this stage of brewing???? Can somewhat recall something about not using brass at some stage of brewing, or am I confuzzed again? Cheers

    Replacing Tap On Urn

Hi All, Wish to replace the tap on my Birko urn to be able to use 1/2"I.D. silicon hose (preferable) to transfer the hot wort. I BIAB. The shank on the original tap is 13/16"-20.5mm O.D. Would like to know what other brewers have done in this situation that doesn't cost a fortune, as I see that...

Bavarian Wheat Yeast #3638 Not Working!

Thanks for the reply Argon. The only wheat yeast I can get readily/aesily is SAFBREW WB-06. Would there be any problems using this? I could also transfer the wort into another fermenter to aerate. Would this be too much and subjecting myself to other problems? Or keep it simple and stir in as...

Bavarian Wheat Yeast #3638 Not Working!

Yeah, didn't even look at the date on the pack. First opportunity in quite a while to brew, just got stuck into it before something else bloody cropped up. Wasn't until Manticle asked, that I dragged the pack out of the bin and looked at the date. Buggerit just can't to get a break lately...

Bavarian Wheat Yeast #3638 Not Working!

It was manf. 23 Sept 2010. It was ordered from one of the sponsors and when received was refrigerated immediately. With all that's been happening here of late, I haven't had much of a chance to do any brewing. :(

Bavarian Wheat Yeast #3638 Not Working!

Hi All, Advice needed please. Have pitched a Wyeast Bavarian Wheat #3638 into a brew on Friday night and so far no action, it's dead set lifeless! Is this yeast usually slow as I have not used it before? Scenario:- Brewed Tony's Dark Whaet Dunkelweizen on Thursday and no chilled it. Friday...

    Racking Cane And Tap

Hi Wombil, I think these taps are Allbar or Downey equipment, I'm not sure, have been out of the game too long (was a cellar man in the 80's). I have a couple of these taps myself and one fitting, but it's only for a font or temprite front panel. I live just outside Sydney and was going to...

    Leak In Fermenter Tap

Slight off topic....but.. Snap taps:- How do you attach tubing to a tapered spout when racking without it coming off? :(

    Heating

Try one of these:- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT You can attach it in a horizontal or vertical zig-zag patterned coil to the walls of your fermenting fridge/box. Hook it up to a temp. controller or even a timer (experiment with on/off times and intervals)...

    Leak In Fermenter Tap

Easy..... Just bung a small cork in the tap ( sprayed with a bit of idofor etc.) You can also whittle down a wine cork to do the job if a small cork can't be sourced.... (done this). I no longer dismantle the plastic taps for cleaning, not worth it. I do boil them after each use and if they...

Brewing With Spices - Where Do You Get Yours?

To the OP, try Green Valley Spices. They are in Sydney, have a on-line shop, but I use the stall at Sydney's Flemington Growers Market (Saturdays). Good variety and fresh. They have franchises, so there might be one your way. Hope this helps.

    Adding Zest When Bottling

I once added fresh orange peel (zest only) to the sugar syrup that I boiled for the bottle carbonation. Was trying to get a "jaffa stout", bulk priming, zest removed prior to adding to vessel. CRIPES! Ended with bottle bombs and gushers. Had to tip the lot, what a bloody mess.

Refractometers From E-bay (hong Kong) Any Good?

My 2c on refractometers:- These are great for preferment as others have stated. I have found that different brews ie:- cider, stout, lite ale etc. give different readings during and at end of ferment. So the conversion tables get thrown out the window. Have others experienced this or is it my...

Thanks all. A bit of jargon I didn't know of (which wouldn't be hard, not savvy at this).
