    New research on dry yeast

I'm always curious as to why people bother to wash yeast. Why not just make a larger starter and harvest from that? A lot less messing around. I crash cool, remove most of the starter beer, transfer to a smaller container to minimise headspace and store it in the fridge until it's time to make...

    Hydrometre Accuracy?

Ok thanks for all your help. I ended up assuming that yes it is inacurate but it will be inacurate in it's own way, It gave me a constant reading over three days so I bottled. Thanks again, Trent

    Hydrometre Accuracy?

Damn I only bought the thing yesterday. Any sugestions? Better brands etc? Will it matter if I use a hydrometre that is out because I'm going to be using the same hydrometre (as long as I don't break it again) so shouldn't it give me a constant reading anyway?

    Hydrometre Accuracy?

No I didn't buy it from the supermarket. My first one came with my kit and the second one I bought from my LHBS. I just measured it in water at 21 degrees and it read 0.960. I forgot to note what the temperature was during my last readings though I didn't realise it was so important until...

    Hydrometre Accuracy?

Hey guys, It's now day 8 since I started my first brew. Iv'e taken hydrometre readings for the past 2 days both which were 1016. Which I thought was a bit high but I didn't follow the instructions in the kit to a tee so thought this may be resonable. However just to be sure I was going to test...

    Bottles Bottles Bottles

No worries. Hahaha yer just next to the golf corse couldn't be easier. If your planning on only buying 96 of the 330ml you'll have to pay an extra $10 but hey it'll still end up being only about 60 cents a bottle. Still worth it I wreckon if your not going to be brewing on often or already have...

    Bottles Bottles Bottles

Hey BribieG, I Picked mine up from there brisbane showroom. They do have a good range except some of them you need to buy by the pallet (in the 1000's of bottles) except they have a couple of bottles like the 330ml and the 640ml bottles that they sell in a pack of 12. The only...

    Bottles Bottles Bottles

I'm using a combination of 330ml and 640ml bottles. I normally bottle half a batch in each as I find it quite handy depending on how much I want to drink at a time, it also saves on time bottling a few into the 640ml. By the way if your looking to source some bottles cheap and easy I bought...

    First Brew

Thanks for all your help. It's good to hear a number of different opinions I guess it might come down to trial and error in the end to find something that suits my taste. As for the airlock I know I've read it in numerous places ignore ignore but I can't help it but as i said it's only the...

    First Brew

Hey guys, I started my first brew three days ago. It was a coopers heritage lager kit that came with my beginners kit. However, instead of using just dextrose I added a kilo of fermentables reccomended to me by my local home brew shop. I think it was mainly dextrose with some malt and...
