American Wheat Beer: Unhappy About My First Try?

DJR, it is a harsh bitterness. It is not overly bitter just very resinous. Reminds me a bit of pine sap without the pine flavour and not astringent. If that makes any sort of sense. The Cascade was a bit old about 5 months or so. It was stored in the fridge in one of Ross' special zip lock...

UURGHH!! NOTHING :( Moving house over the next few weeks and I've had to but brewing on hold and watch the stocks begin to deplete. Good news however. :super: The new house has a darkroom that is going to be my NEW brewery. Can't wait to fit it out. I'll put some photos up when I get going...

American Wheat Beer: Unhappy About My First Try?

Thanks Kai and tangent, It is definitly a very ordinary beer. I didn't cc it. I thought you didn;t need to cc wheat ales and that they drunk best when fresh. I'll take your advice and cc a couple of bottles and see if it makes any difference. I'll also give the alternate yeasts a blast next...

    Belgan Rasberry Beer

Adamt, Sounds like an intruiging (sp) brew. Something I'd like to give a go to in the not to distant future. Just a thought on the sweetness. What about adding some Lactose, as in sweet stouts. OR you could do what wine makers do and use some metabisulphate to knock the yeast on the head...

    Help With High Alcohol% Brew..?

With the goo in there as well, I wouldn;t worry mate, all sounds spot on. I agree with Voosher you are looking at over 6%. Give it a couple more days and test it again. If its gravity has not moved then bobs your uncle.

    Help With High Alcohol% Brew..?

dane111 Did you add a can of goo in there as well or was it just the ingredients that you listed. If it was just the ingredients listed then I'm not quiet sure how you thought you were going to get 8%, you might get 4.5% by the end. My calculations put your OG at about 1.046 which would give...

    Wit Recipe From G+g

Hi kitkat, I've been looking for a good wit recipe for a while and this one sounds the go, especially after your ringing endorsment. I noticed that one of the ingredients in this recipe is malted oats. Did you usemalted oats or plain rolled oats. Where do you get malted oats from? Tim

What Is Your Batch Size ?

That's really interesting Pumpy, I really like the ideas of splitting it into two cubes and fermenting one at a later date. What sort of efficiency improvements do you get with 40l versus 23l in terms of the conversion and in terms of gas? At the moment my batch size is restricted by two...

Users Of The "no Chiller Method"

Oops  what am I talking about, I've got HEFF on the brain, I mean wlp833, I was attempting a porter in the style of the old Malt Shovel. Well the trub seems like it then, and it certainly makes sense to me that some soaps could form. I can see it accounting for the flavour, will...

Users Of The "no Chiller Method"

Hi no chillers, Just thought I might share my "no chill' experiences with you all. I am a recent convert back to chilling due to three bad experiences with 'no chill'. I did nc on three brews in a row, a porter, an apa and a stout. Recipies where very standard and simple ag recipies...
