I'd say it would be fine. I used to use a pool pH meter I bought from Jaycar and they are way more pricey than that one. At $15 not much to lose.

I just poped one into the fermenter on tuesday night. Having a little trouble keeping the temps down, hopefully it'll be fine though. Definitely not one to do in summer if you have no fridge or means of temp control.

Don't quote me on this (as I'm new to this caper as well) but the cold temperature does not "kill" the yeast just puts it to sleep. It'll wake up for secondary fermentation in the bottle when you leave it at room temperature for about 2 weeks.

I've tried asking my local for any bottles, but they ignored me. Or maybe it got lost in their inbox.

I know the feeling. I always get weird looks when I go through the bins of my own building the night before collection. Because its well lit and right next to the train station loads of people walk past when I'm doing it.

Thanks Ian, top stuff. One thing I noticed is that you can't select all the kits in the list. For example I want to select from the drop down list a black rock kit but its not there. They are shown in the Kits Sheet but not in the drop down list. Hope this makes sense. But yeah great...
