the big picture .... with details

The equipment isn't important - the process is! I used to use a 3v system but now I prefer to make cornie sized brews so I can try more things. I'm using a 40l Guten but whatever you choose is capable of making great beer. If you want to go commercial a larger pilot size is probably better as...

    Brau Wolf.

Cool! Hopefully they will give a decent price delivered to Shanghai and I'll get the wife to bring it back with her next time she heads there. Saves all that shipping and taxes etc. :) The 40l Guten is working fine but it would be nice to have a bit more capacity sometimes.

    Digital Thermometer <- thermapen alternatives

Well my certified thermometer only goes 20 to 40C and at that range it's almost spot on. It also seems to agree with other higher temp thermometers I have, but they are not certified

    Brau Wolf.

Hey @wide eyed and legless isn't that the one from FDKU and don't they make the new 40l Guten? They list their 40l unit as a Guten at least, but with the same flexible recirc pipe.. Just wondering as I've asked them to provide a price for a sample delivered to Shanghai.

    KegLand Questions and Answers

@KegLand-com-au I wasn't confusing component and appliance, rather commenting that if Australian approval for such a component power supply was needed, there would be many suppliers selling such illegal/unapproved devices. In other words Kegland was following common practice concerning...

KK - 'Fermentasaurus' conical PET fermenter

Could someone give overall height/diameter of this item? I couldn't see the dimensions on the KK site. Just want to make sure it will fit in my fridge before heading out there only to find it's a cm too tall or something :)

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Well there are a lot of illegal PSU's in Australia then. Including many desktop computers, LED lighting systems for Aquariums and hydroponics (which use PSU's looking exactly the same as the KL ones) etc. etc. I think most of these rely on the CE approval, I've not seen Aus compliance anywhere...

    Digital Thermometer <- thermapen alternatives

I've had one of the Inkbird foldable thermometers for quite a while. Dropped it a couple of times and still working well.

KK - 'Fermentasaurus' conical PET fermenter

If you have a look in the conical fermenter threads you'll see ways others have done the dry hopping. I am currently fermenting in kegs and don't harvest the used yeast but rather save part of the starter for the next brew. And at the price, I'm pretty tempted to buy one of these things too.

    What are you listening to

Sing along now ! "Prices are down" OK, to get that out of everyone's head here's a song you'll all know too.

    Hi all

Nice! Well, why don't you let us know what you like to brew. I do mainly American Pales and English style beers.

Sous Vide with your Brew Rig

The leg was boneless so didn't want to go too far. Damn Oxtail! I remember when the butcher would give you that for free not charge you like it was a delicacy :) Only ever used it in soups and stocks tbh

    Selling EVERYTHING

If you can't flog it in time, you're welcome to store it at my place for a short while until you get a decent offer. Sadly I'm not in the market as I've scaled down to a 1v system edit: oops just realised some time ago I said I'd take the scales but when you said SOLD I thought you meant you'd...

Sous Vide with your Brew Rig

Not lamb or beef but did do a 2Kg boneless pork leg at 60c for 20 hours. Turned out juicy and tender but not sure it was worth the effort. I will be trying to do an Ox tongue via sous vide after initial brining but haven't as yet. edit: by 'effort" I meant the wait. Things that are awesome...

Sous Vide with your Brew Rig

Yes I've used the Guten to cook sous vide salmon a few times now. I like it cooked at around 45C time varied from 30 min to 50 depending on size of fish.

If it tastes good and is carbonated to your liking then it's ready. There's no right/wrong way.

    Viking Malts

Not a pensioner yet but I've got a seniors card - must try flashing that next time I'm at Home Make It - you never know. I've had a couple of lunch bills discounted after showing it recently.

How to dispose of spent grains?

I actually do that too! There's a little walkway with walls both sides at my place where I slash all the leaves/twigs into the catcher. Still makes a bit of a mess but easy to clean up after. edit: back on topic ish. I'm actually building a temporary 1 cubic metre hot compost bin as I need a...

    Carabohemian Malt

Like @MHB says the Carabohemian does taste different to Crystal but it's a reasonable alternative. Actually the Dr Smurtos I used to make didn't have Carabohemian, but mainly Pilsner Wheat Munich and some Caramunich iirc

    Water purity/sterilization

Great info, will have to do a bit of research tomorrow. Yes I see the difference between the halogen and halide and makes sense it would work on them similarly I'm not super concerned about flouride though, as soft drinks like Coke are shown at 0.7ppm Even bottled water is listed as 0.1ppm and...
