I use a cask breather and a check valve with my beer engine and it works perfectly, I keep the cask breather pressure set to around 3 or 4 psi and never had an issue with lid seals. Cask Breather Check Valve Pulls a lovely pint

The advice about going to one of the large supermarkets is probably best for a wide variety (although that's a shame!) the big four are Sainsbury's, ASDA, Tesco & Morrisons, all have a wide range of beers my local ASDA & Tesco have all started stocking beers from licol micro's which is a good...

Totally agree with you - early morning brews are great (if you can manage them) I used to do the same as you when my kids were under very young, why not !! Get the nightime feed in, settle down get yourself a big coffee (or Yorkshire Tea for me) and get the mash on. I've had a few brews finish...

I'm experimenting with lowering efficiency at the moment. My last brew (which is currently fermenting) I deliberately targetted 65% efficiency (normally get ~85%) to see if there is much of a difference.

Thanks for posting it on THBF There are some methods there that are certainly not used in the UK. I'm looking forward to seeing what the replies are like from the THBF members.
