Brewtech SS fermenting vessels discussion thread

Well, I just measured mine and the 43cm is the size of the lid - and not the measurement you need. The legs welded to the main body, stick out past this to - guess what - 460mm! Did you honestly think the manufacturers own blurb would be incorrect?

I'm not sure what else you need Grainer. The manufacturer isn't going to provide a size which is wrong. The size provided in PM from me is correct. There is nothing that sticks out past the legs. At some point you'll just have to trust the information you've already been provided.

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

Bridge Road Chevalier Saison. Bottle conditioned - does anyone happen to know if the bottling yeast strain is the same as the fermentation yeast strain? I know it's easy enough to shoot a message to Ben on social media, but given it's NYE I figure it's not the night to be doing it! Anyone...

$12 60litre wheelie bins back at bunnings

It's a real bastard to keep it balanced! :)

$12 60litre wheelie bins back at bunnings

I have 6 of them! Pretty good things. But I want to get rid of them and go for the big air-tight pet food containers I've seen at Costco (once, last year, but never again since) so I can stack my grain vertically.

I contacted SS Brewtech on Thursday and they also said it's abnormal, and would probably send me a new valve. They would have to advise next week however due to Christmas.

I dismantled my ball valves tonight so I could wash them and the 1/2" was shockingly hard to get the ball out of. The 3/4" ball just slid out, as they also do on my brewery. Did anyone else have issues with the 1/2" ball valve?

I'd probably go the bigger one anyway, not a bad price and seems like decent gear for cleaning after doing some more reading.

    Saison advice

Wait until it's at FG before dropping the temp again. Also, let taste be your guide.

Which TSP are you guys using to clean the conical and parts? Bunnings sell http://www.bunnings.com.au/cleaner-all-purpose-2-2kg-tricleanium-_p1670021 which is >99% TSP according to the MSDS. Kind of expensive.

I'd already given that some thought and there's a chance I'll give that a go. I'm actually considering getting a 7 gallon brew bucket for small batches/yeast starters :D Regarding the cooling, personally I don't want anything other than the conical itself and directly associated fittings...

My 17G Chronical was just delivered :D Nice bit of kit! For the money it just can't be beaten I don't think. The Weldless thermometer probe isn't bad - It'll be simple to pop it out between batches and make sure it's clean - I'd be doing that with all the other fitting as well anyway. Latest...

    Another DIY stir plate

Not sure why you'd bother. Room temp is all you need for starters; and it can be boiled on the stove to sanitise.

    Another DIY stir plate

I fail to see why these button/disc magnets continue to be used by brewers. They are really not very good for this job. Their magnetic field is tiny and they throw the stir bar too easily, and yet people persist. HDD magnets are also not large enough for big stir bars, but their polarity is...

    BrewMonitor project

I'd never heard of a Photon until about 30 mins ago :) It will be very handy for another project I'm working on that I need a small, light and very simple interface to the CANBUS in a car. For me I picked RasPi because it runs an OS I'm intimately familiar with, a language I wasn't so much (but...

    BrewMonitor project

For me having worked as a systems administrator in the past and currently as a software developer - having a full, real Linux environment with whatever programming languages I wanted available and actual available CPU and RAM is too much for me to resist. I've played with Arduino fairly...

    BrewMonitor project

Like I said, but was subsequently ignored, it is easy to do and does work without an Arduino. The RasPi is NOT unstable as the BrewPi guy says. It's more likely something was wrong with an individual RasPi, unstable power input (they can be quite sensitive to this), an SD card issue (the OS can...
