Wanted: Cheap Used Co2 Extinguisher (melbourne)

I plan to ring around, but I usually get a bit stuck with being car-less - one of the perils of inner city living. Usually means things have to be kept above board as delivery has to be arranged for anything I can't fit on the back of my bike :D. A lift from a mate would normally be the go, but...

Wanted: Cheap Used Co2 Extinguisher (melbourne)

Like many others I've been left a bit high and dry with the discontinuation of the $17 p/a CO2 rental deal by AL, with my rental agreement expiring at the end of the month. I really can't justify the hike in rental given my consumption levels, though it kills me to return a bottle that is 2/3...

    A Beer Accompaniment

It's my understanding that prions are somewhat heat tolerant, making an outbreaks a nightmare in hospitals where autoclaving may be insufficient to deactivate the proteins. So I wouldn't exactly rely on a well done steak to stop your brain getting holes in it. You're far more likely to suffer...

    Ventmatic Taps

Any chance of some compare and contrast between the Celli and Perlick taps, now that hopefully a few have been installed? I'm leaning towards the Celli due to the flow adjuster, and the bling factor. However, I haven't been able to find much info on the web about them, whereas the Perlick is...

    Co2 Beer Emissions

I'd have thought fermentation would be close to carbon neutral - given the carbon would have originated from sugars in the barley, which are created by pulling CO2 from the atmosphere in the first place. This of course doesn't take into account the use of petrochemicals in fertilisers...

    Anyone Ever Got Into Trouble

I think kegs pinched for homebrewing make up a miniscule proportion overall. The vast majority are coffee tables, stools, or are holding up BBQs and TVs found in hard rubbish. Anyone who's lived with uni students will know what I mean...

    Can You See Your House?

When the US military wants civilian imagery censored, they buy it all up, whatever the cost. Here we 'liase'? Where do you draw the line here? It's okay to look in our backyards but not on a civilian science facility which any caftan donning greenie sporting a paper mache a-bomb can break into...

    C02 Cylinders Rentals/refills

Grain and Grape in Maidstone, as well as the Brew and Grow stores (Frankston, Edithvale, are the ones I know of) are Air Liquide dealers. The D size bottles are around $15 a year to rent, and about $40 to fill.

    Open Source Beer

Very silly and fame-whorish, given the vast number of free recipes online. From Vores l Savages! From http://www.blowfly.com.au/ :o Minus ten points for use of the word 'premium' in a beer description, minus a million for ripping on imported hops, and then going on to use saaz in their...

    Ozbrewers Toys

Well, I'm an idiot. Don't suppose you are also having problem with the themostat wigging out every once in a while (every week or so) - it keeps the relay on despite the temperature exceeding the setpoint? Turning it off and then back on an hour later fixes the problem. But unusual...

    Ozbrewers Toys

Not if you work a little electrical engineering mojo. You can crack open the jaycar thermostat, remove the thermistor, and put it on leads. You can also rig up a 3V voltage regulator and plug pack to power the thermostat instead of batteries. This is what I've done for my fermentation box (here...

Serving Through A Cold Plate In The Fridge

Could work, you'd be limited in the number of cold beers you're able to pour in a given time. Putting the plate in a solution would increase the amount of beer able to be chilled, but it would also take longer to recover once the plate and solution has warmed up. You could always chuck a bag of...

    Coopers Sparkling Ale

I believe the slight fruity estery notes of Coopers Sparkling Ale develop as a result of the extra alcohol - hence the need for more fermentables. It won't be that much more alcoholic, around 5.5-6.5%, I think.

Yummm The Taste Of Wet Cardboard

Hot wort will increase the rate of reaction because of the extra energy about. Wet cardboardy compounds don't get much of a chance with cool wort when the oxygen won't be around for very long (will be consumed by the yeast). The others could comment better than I - but can't fly sparging be a...

    Powells Malt - My Experiences

I use Powell's and have had no problems. The odd bit of straw or small stone, but that makes up a minute proportion and hasn't posed any problems. The point I'd like to make is that I'm sure Powell's sample their batches to check for quality. However, I'm not clear on how much of your order has...

    Melbourne Beer Tasting

Also keen, I should be able to do the old push bike and train job. I'll have to crank up beer production over the holidays. I've just cracked my first all grain batch (10L, an APA), and fear it won't even last until the end of exams. And that's the only beer I've left! :o And I really need...

    Fermenters

Problem would be getting a good seal around a mechanical stirrer. In fact, just getting it in there. The best solution I can think of is to use a small pump to force liquid at a tangent to the side of the carboy, thereby creating a rotating current.

    Fermenters

Just a thought - perhaps you could simulate a conical by somehow getting a magnetic stirrer, much like sosman's for starters, into the carboy, thereby bringing the trub to the center, allowing it to be drained off as required.
