OK, You're Here And You Brew, What Else Do You Do?

Help With Stovetop Ag Biab Please

    1) Sounds ok but given you've got the option of direct heating your mash tun, I wouldn't worry about being too accurate. 2) Yes, I would think so. When you're getting close to strike temp, turn off and let the temp stabilise, THEN add your grains. And continue stirring for 5-10 minutes to make...

    Cleaning Off Old Labels

Picking the right bottles helps. Some labels are pretty much impossible. Coopers, VB, Carlton are great. Grand Ridge suck to high heaven. Soaking in warm soapy water should do the trick. Maybe try some eucalyptus oil for really sticky glue. Andrew

    Newbie Questions

panpac, I'm assuming 'OG' was a typo but just in case: OG = Original Gravity which is the Specific Gravity (SG) that your beer starts at. You get your OG by taking a hydrometer reading before pitching your yeast as manticle said above. FG = Final Gravity which is the SG your beer ends at. Good...

Herbo, I've never used one but I did get excited when I say this thread, thinking exactly the same thing as you. Bottling Buckets...

How soon is soonish? Can't you bottle now to free up fermenter and then do your next brew? Bottling will take 1 or 2 hours, then you can get onto your next brew. Sure, you probably could mix in the sugar and let it sit for an hour to settle but are you really that desperate to get a brew going...

Same Gravity Reading Pre And Post Boil...?

Were you drinking at the time? Seriously, it could have made you a little distracted/cross eyed/whatever so you might have misread the hydrometer. What were your pre and post boil volumes? Andrew

    Bottling Buckets...

jbowers, The advantages of bulking priming are that the process of racking your beer onto the priming solution gives it a good, gentle stir and ensures all of your beer is mixed with the priming solution and also, any trub is left behind. If you stir in your priming solution instead of bulk...

    A Little Help

It might be the extract you're using. Liquid extract goes off faster than dry extract. Maybe try using all dry extract and see if you get the twang. And when I say "off" I don't mean it's unsafe. I just mean that the quality is reduced. Poor quality extract will more likely give you that "kit...

The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009

But are they really that outragious? You aren't making any money from this excercise so there is a lot of work going unpaid (by you and the people who have volunteered to pack) which means that it's unfair to compare the price you've arranged with the price that a retailer will charge. A...

    2009 Hop Plantations

You could try an adjustable trellis. The idea is that you run your string/wire from the base of your plant, up through an eyelet (at the top of a pole a couple of metres tall) with enough extra to handle the entire hop bine length. Tie off the end of the string loosely. As the bine approaches...
