    Single vessel electric brewing

Hey Mark Having never used a 3v system before and looking to upgrade my crown urn 1v to recirc with a malt pipe and use PID control, what options would I not get from a brew using this system compared to a 3v or other? Cheers Chap

    Ale fermentation time

Might sound like a silly question, but is your hydrometer calibrated correctly? And are you temp correcting your readings? I.e 1.008 at 28*C calculates to be 1.010 at 20*C, if that’s what temperature your hydrometer is calibrated to

BIAB Mash Time and Boil Time (noob warning)

Fact is, taste is subjective. And like MHB said, everything you do ends up in the glass. If you’re happy with your results and it works for you, awesome. I’m no pro, and I’d drink anyone’s brew if it tasted good. Point is if it’s being submitted to competition or being judged based on...

Upgrade to 2V system - pseudo brutus

I recently saw a similar system when trying to decide if staying with 1v or going to 2v (I’ve settled on 1v). It’s a 2v full volume system by high gravity brewing and may or may not be what you’re looking for but could give you some ideas Cheers Chap

QldKev's New Biab With Internal Rims

Im looking at building the exact same system as Jono above and also am a bit wary of drilling into the urn. Pro tips greatly appreciated. On a side note, my urn has a concealed element, so would it still be necessary for a bottom return inlet for the recirc? Cheers Chap

Mashed at strike temp - can it be saved?

Thanks all, yeah I did continue with it and no chilled. I'll run with it as is for now and if it's too sweet I might do the blend idea thanks S.E

Mashed at strike temp - can it be saved?

The initial mash in temp was 66, then crept back up to the urn set temp of 72.

Mashed at strike temp - can it be saved?

Turns out I didn't turn my urn off once the water hit the strike temp, So I've been mashing (BIAB) at about 72oC for an hour. :( Can I salvage this brew in any way? I was hoping to make a basic smash with 5kg BB ale malt. Cheers Chap

    BIAB upgrade

Hey rooster, I haven't really thought too much about batch size other than wanting the capacity for at least double batches down the track, possibly more. I get what you're saying though. Might have to go back to the drawing board and decide on a final design and work toward that

Bottling Day and my air lock has started bubbling again!

Depends on a number of things. What was your grain bill? OG? Target FG? Ferment temp? Any change in ferment temp in the last week? My uneducated guess would be that if your hydro/refrac readings are stable and no change in fermentation environment/conditions it should be ok, but need to check...

    My airlock's not bubbling

Hydrometer/refractometer readings from my experience are the best indicator of fermentation. I've had a number of brews show no airlock activity but go from 1.045 - 1.008 SG in 5 days without issue or infection

    BIAB upgrade

Hi all I've been thinking recently of upgrading from BIAB (40L crown urn) to eventually a 3V Rims or Herms system. I'm thinking Herms over Rims for the non scorch factor and from what I've researched most home brewers seem to favour Herms over Rims. Anyway my question is, If I were to buy...

    Dry hopping: Keg vs fermenter

I have keg hopped numerous times, with no ill effects. I have corny kegs which have a 'hanging hole' (for lack of better words) to tie in a hop sock/stocking. I use single leg stockings for keg hopping tied to the hole, and as the hops take on beer the stocking stretches giving flavour all the...

How Much Did You Brew In 2017

552L, which averages to just under 1 23L batch per fortnight. My New Years resolution is to brew 1 batch a week average, so hopefully double the production, brew more styles and consistently produce the house beers

    Too much 20min hops

Actual 20 min, so with no chill looking at 40, no other bittering additions were made though. I've just taken a sample and OG is 1.044. Tasted it, and its not as bitter as I expected it, but its definitely there. I think I'll roll with it for now and see how it goes. This is a freezer burn brew...

    Too much 20min hops

Hi all, I am hoping that I can salvage my latest brew somehow. I accidentally added 40g centennial at 20min instead of 20g, along with 20g cascade giving me an estimated IBU (brewers friend) of 50 rather than the 30 I was looking for. This also give me a BU/GU of 1.28 (calculated OG of 1.040)...

    CPBF Recommendations

I didn't know there was a 'technique' as such other than having the bottles the same temp as the keg. I attach the cap with the tubing at the bottom of the bottle, twist open the cap enough to start the flow, fill til some foam comes out the top, remove gas disconnect, remove carb cap and put...
